The day we found out our beloved Caesar had Osteocarcoma was one of the saddest days in my life... We had loved our beautiful Golden Retriever for 11 years... He went everywhere with us and was a wonderful companion...sweet spirited, obedient , a very loving dog.... The reason I am writing is for those who are facing that same awful moment when you hear the words cancer... and to be told without amputation he would likely not survive more than 3 months....I was convinced we would be “maiming “ our majestic Caesar by going through with the surgery.... and how could he possibly get by on 3 legs.? I could not have been more mistaken..... we chose the route of amputation followed by 6 months of chemo treatments.... it proved to be the best decision we could have ever made.... Caesar went on to live a wonderful life for 17 more months.... swimming, running, playing in the yard like he always had done...and we enjoyed every second we had with him.... I will acknowledge it is a difficult decision financially... but worth every dime for all the extra time we were privileged to have with our beautiful Caesar...
Caesar and family, thank you so much for sharing a beautiful, inspawrational story with us. What a gift to everyone to know that he did so well! Your sweet boy's life gives hope to others who feel as reluctant as you did when presented with the idea of amputation (oh my gosh we felt the same way). Thank you for taking time to celebrate his victory on 3!
