This is a bit off the topic, but maybe someone who reads this will offer some help. John Wayne is missing his rear left leg. He seems to do ok with stairs, but Sunday we had a "situation".  He rides in a wire crate in the car and truck, just for stability. In our Subie, we lift him in and out. In our truck, we lift him in, and he jumps out onto the ground. Sunday he bit me, and growled many times. Our animal communicator friend was over yesterday to learn why, and it turns out, jumping out of the truck onto the concrete floor of our garage really hurts. John Wayne suggested a mattress or other soft landing material. So today we ordered an air mattress, which we will use while car camping....Has anyone had this experience, and if so, please share with us what you are doing to help your dog in and out of the car. Yes, we have a Ruff Wear harness . Fabulous. Thank you very much.

We've moved your post here to it's own topic where it will hopefully get the attention it deserves. Your future posts will not require moderation, thanks for joining.

John Wayne's aggressive behavior is a clear indicator if pain. A "landing pad" may soften the blow but it will not take any force off the legs. The best solution would be to use the handle on your Ruff Wear harness to ease John out of the vehicle so his full body weight does not damage the ligaments and bone in his front limbs over time from repeated impact. Missing a rear leg, it is equally important to assist him into the truck so he's not pushing off his entire weight with one leg.

We have a Dodge Ram 2500 4X4, and as much as Wyatt like to try and prove how he can get in and out on his own once in a while, we always provide assistance using the harness.

Not sure if it will help - but have you thought of getting a doggy ramp? We ended up getting one for Riley and it works great -

Riley goes to work with Kurt every day so she is in and out of the truck constantly  - She still wants to do things herself (typical head strong dog) so we hold on to her Ruffwear Harness and then run her up or down the ramp....She thinks she is in a 6 ft. agility course so when she gets in - she spins and wants a treat.....when she gets out - she wants another treat.....Ha Ha.....
