A story about the begining of Raven's cancer journey

I was asked by someone here, so thought I'd just share this link:

This was my report on a Bulldog Forum that I frequent because of Betty.  They all love Raven there too.  Back in April '09, I found out that Raven's limping was a classic looking bone lesion in his upper humerus.  The xray looked like osteosarcoma and the vet wanted to prepare me that it was 95% chance it was.  I was crushed.
I took Raven and my dear friend that has known him his whole life, "Auntie" Laura, and we drove for a special day to the ocean, treats, dog toys, it was All About Raven.  Assuming he would get sick fast and it may likely be his last.  The link above is my report that Monday, with lots of pics and videos.
We did a bone biopsy that week and a week after that found out is was benign.  I have never felt like I dodged a bullet like I did that day.  The vet couldn't explain it.  Raven had bulldog lovers and my friends all praying for him for two weeks (see all the comments at the bottom of the link above).  I say it was the power of prayer and God had mercy on me, or maybe Raven had a bunch of people he still needed to touch in his life.  🙂
We rechecked that lesion every two months with an xray, it remained unchanged, he continued to limp.  But Oct. 26's recheck was bad.  It was classic neoplasia and had changed, they concluded it had become malignant.  I remember kicking myself for not having his leg amputated before that.  *sigh*  But, hindsight, oh well.  Amputation immediate.
But, this roller coaster ride wasn't over.  We got the biopsy back as chondrosarcoma instead of osteosarcoma...so that's better again than I had suspected.  Today Raven is as good as he ever was.  And not limping any more.  His 9th birthday is in two weeks, I have to come up with something special...

What a journey! I expect life continues to be "all about Raven" even today (here we have 'in the world that revolves around Tazzie').

I love the footprints in the sand photo. Really nice!

Tripod Rottie Raven

Thank you for sharing the link! What a very special story. We really love this photo too!

My pawrents remember thinking about how I would probably get sick real fast when they learned I had cancer. But ha! I proved them wrong! There is always a chance that our furbabies will beat the odds. Bless you for giving Raven that opportunity. May he have many, many more birthdays!

Raven

Maybe we can have a joint 9 year old bday party next weekend! Anyone else having a birthday soon? (Stupid mum can't remember if I was born Dec 4 or Dec 6, silly mum Confused). She says I can have the really expensive organic roast she bought for my chemo in August, but I never needed. Yummm. You are all invited!!

Oh special day!  Raven deserves every spoiling moment.  We got to meet him and he's the greatest guy.

So he likes the 'Rilla (that's what we call the screaming monkey) best?  Mine do too, although we have trouble keeping it whole.  I think we're on Rilla #6 or 7.

May the good news continue!

Rilla, that's a good name.  He likes cows best.  He crunches one time too many and breaks their insides.  He's on Cow #7.  The Rilla is still fine and his first one.  I only keep it as back up in case he breaks a cow and there's no current backup.  Ha, the things we do for our doggies...

Dawn,
Thanks for sharing- it brings back some pretty tough memories for when Maggie was diagnosed, and had her amp. But also the 'up' side of the roller coaster we have been on. She had her amp in September of 06, she wasn't supposed to make it to her next birthday in March of 07, when she would be 8.

Now we are looking forward to her being 11 next March!!

Mag also has one of those Monkeys- since she is so small she has to bite it just right to get the sound to come. But she gets this evil little grin on her face when she gets it to go off, then she does it over and over and over...smiley15 She seems to know how annoying it is to us...I have conveniently left that toy at my parents housesf-laugh

Can't wait to hear the details of the birthday party!
