Hi! My cat, Chloe, had her rear leg amputated in May 2021 due to a soft cell sarcoma in the joint on her rear leg. With the encouragement of people on this site, she came through the surgery like a champ and healed up remarkedly well. She is able to get around on her 3 legs with no issue and climbs stairs and jumps on and off the couch with no issues. Sometimes I forget she is missing a leg!

Unfortunately, I have recently noticed 3 lumps on the same side of her body that had the original lump. They are very hard and do not move. I did take her to the vet, and her bloodwork was perfect. He also did an x-ray, but we haven't gotten the report from the radiologist. I am pretty sure it is the same thing, and at this point, I do not want to put her through a bunch of tests and surgeries. It just devastates me, because she is such a sweetheart. I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this with their tripawd.

First of all, so glad Chloe has been such a hapoy Warrior and is enjoying being Chloe♥️

I don't have specific  feedback on the "lump situation ",  I just wanted to send some extra pawsotopve energy  and to reassure  you there will be options.  Obviously  you need to wait to get confirmati9on from the Vet, but while it may seem to be  a slim hope right now, it is "possible" these lumps could just be "lumps".

Hang tight.  I know it's hard to "wait", but just continue  to follow  Chloe's lead and continue  to get on with gettn' on.

P.S.  Just 2ant to add this statement I found from a Vet on a preciois search I had do e elsewhere.  Kerry (Rene) actually has a lot of know regarding CBD and may be able to expand.

13 studies that indicate CBD and other cannabinoids may slow or stop certain tumor growth in humans and animals

Ok paws crossed that this is not as bad as it might seem. This does happen occasionally and in fact Jessee's mom just posted about their experience with an STS and the accompanying great news that came with excision.

So, try to keep calm until the radiologist comes back with a report. IF this is some type of tumor there are a couple of options to consider that are less invasive than what Jessee just completed. electrochemotherapy and intralesional chemotherapy are good options when an animal is on three legs. It's not done everywhere but we can help find you a vet who is experienced in these procedures. The treatments are common in pets and people overseas but not so much here just because of the lack of U.S.-based studies and practitioners. But they are promising! Travis and his sibling Codie from Oakland CA had the treatments done post-amp and it gave them an excellent quality of life for several years afterward.

Regarding:

Sally, is there a direct link for the studies they reference? I'm not seeing any. Right now, the science is very early and not proven for this claim. I'd like to see what that company is referring to. You always have to be extra thorough when a cannabis manufacturer is making claims like this on their marketing materials.

Please keep us posted on the news OK? We are keeping our paws crossed for Chloe and you!

So I searched this on the web

how to treat soft cell sarcoma return in cats

I wentt through a lot of links and found that  little nugget I posted nestled in with some of the treatments.  I'll find it again. It wasnt from a "company" or any kind of ad promotion.   It was sort of "in addition to" all the surgeries, chemo, margins, etc. this was just a tiny blurb of  something that was quoted from a DVM  At least, that's the way I recall it.....no product or anything like that was promoted. Nothing was noted after that regarding CBD.   Then again, maybe I didn't  read far enough.

I do want to find it again though.   As mentioned, it was just a tiny blurb in an array of "legitimate"  treatment options we are familiar  with...surgery, radiation. chemo.

Apologies to Chloe of I got bamboozled and passed on my "bamboozled trickery" to you!!!😱

Jerry, thanks for the caution!!!!!  👍

Oh my gosh Sally don't worry that kind of mix up can happen to anyone, it's so hard to keep things straight with the amount of information coming at us. And marketers are so slick trying to bury their product info in articles with titles like that. It's their #1 tactic to get people coming to their site from search engines. I've caught myself diving into stuff like that before. No worries at all. I'm just thankful you took the time to search to help a member. Thank you so much! sp_hearticon2

Any chance the vet discussed or did a needle aspirate of the lumps?

Needle aspirates are not invasive and would be my first step to see if you get a conclusive result and then decide what is best for you and Chloe going forward.

Purrkins also had an sts; his lump did not show anything on the x-ray. FYI that does not rule out a sts. We did a needle aspirate, and it came back inconclusive. We got our conclusive results with a surgical biopsy. By the time we did the surgical biopsy, the lump had grown, and they could not get clean margins. If you catch them quickly, you have a better chance of getting clean margins if they are sts and if you would consider surgical removal.

Jerry gave you links other options are available today that are worth exploring if needed.

Fingers and paws crossed, they are not sts and b9 bumps.
Scratches to Chloe, please!

Hugs, Holly & Purrkins💝💝💝

Holly that is such a great question! Aspirating is the ideal step to take right now if possible. Thanks for bringing that up.

Hi...I wanted to provide you with an update on Chloe. After much deliberation, we made the difficult decision not to put her through any more tests or treatments because we realized it would be selfish of us. Needless to say, we were devastated knowing the end was coming. In early April, one of the lumps on her side opened up, so we put gauze on it and wrapped an ace bandage around her to keep it clean. She was declining and she gave us "the look", so we knew it was time. The vet came to our home on April 11th, and I held her as she went to sleep for the final time. She is finally free and running on4 legs. It is still heart breaking for us, but it was the right thing to do. I can't thank you all enough for your support during out journey. It really meant the world to us!sp_hearticon2

I'm soooo sorry, you have my deepest condolences. Chloe was very fortunate to have such compassionate humans in tune with her own needs. People say that animals can't talk, but Chloe proved that they can indeed speak to us, through the heart.

You gave your girl the most loving gift at a time when needed you to be the strongest human you could possibly be. You put your own grief aside to help her spirit leave in light and love. No animal could ask for more.

May her happy, joyful spirit surround you now and always. Look around, she might just leave you signs that she's never far.

Thanks for finding the time to come here and let us know. It wasn't easy I'm sure. If you feel up to writing a tribute in Coping with Loss we would love to celebrate her life with you.

((((hugs))))
