Hello all,

am a little nervous as this is the first time I have ever posted on a forum. Such is the power of the devastating news that our Blue Dane Ruby has Osteosarcoma in a rear legsad. She presented at Vets office during a visit for upcoming ACL surgery.

The preop xrays showed a lesion in her ankle. Quite a right turn from the original plan. Ruby is 7years old and other wise in exellent health. She has been my faithful walking buddy since day one.  I cannot lie and say cost did not enter into our decision whether or not to have the procedure. Our family loves her dearly. She has been a good and faithful companion. We decided we were just not ready to let her go so easliy. We are scheduling the procedure this week. I was pleased to find this website. I think it has helped me decide that it is the right thing to do for our Ruby.

Hi Ruby and family, welcome. We understand how hard of a decision this is, especially for big dawgs, but as you'll see by poking around here, lots of giant breeds do just great on three legs. in fact, Tripawds wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for Moose, a Dane who went on to beat cancer for Two years! He was our inspawration to proceed with my amp and start this community.

We have our paws and fingers crossed that you beat those odds too. When is the big day?

Welcome!  No one wants to join us, but there is so much wonderful information here and the support is outstanding.

Nova is my hero.  She had surgery at the same time Trouble did, so we did our entire journey with her.  She has just turned nine and has had a couple of minor glitches along the way, but is still such an inspiration to all who know her. She has two sister Danes, and with their help guiding her, she still does whatever she wants.

Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul.  Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Hello Ruby and Family

I'm sorry about your news--everyone here knows how it feels to receive it.

Cemil is also a big dog and he has adjusted very well to the 3-legged life.  Amputation was definitely the right thing for him and it was this community that helped me make that decision and supported me through the first difficult weeks.  You're in the right place!

I hope all goes well.

So sorry you had to find us here. You dog is gorgeous!

I know it's all overwhelming at this point, but there can still be happy days ahead for you and your pup. The recovery is not a lot of fun to get through, but after she recovers from the surgery (which will probably be harder for you than for her) you'll see her old personality return and she'll be pain free.

Hang in there. We're here if you have questions during her recovery!

Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Thank you to all for your well wishes and kind thoughts. Rub is having surgery next Wed. We are relieved to finally have made a decision . I m looking forward to the day when she no longer has to deal with the pain she is enduring now. She misses the walks we used to take everyday. She looks at me expectantly when I get home from work ,"What about today mom, can we go today?" We used to walk for several miles. We are all nervous about the outcome. We had a good talk with her vet and she seemed to think she will do ok  because she has basically been only walking on three legs for the last three weeks anyway. (After being casted after bone bx she aquired an infection in her foot) I have been scanning these forums And I realize everyones outcome is different and we are all blessed with what ever time we are dealt. I just love her so much and I will enjoy every min of everyday we get.

It is a relief to get the decision made, isn't it?  You've got lots of time to get ready for Ruby's homecoming- but don't let the time drive you crazy! Get your house ready, and rest up.

Again, let us know if you have questions.
