Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes.  i just ask that you keep them coming.  Our trip to CSU has been phenominal...considering why we made the trip.  We did get good news today.  The only tumor to show up on the bone scan was in the front leg....the one we knew about.  We are doing the ct scan in the am for evaluation of the bone to make sure the tumor has not erroded too much of the bone to safely to SRT, limb salvage radiation, focused on the tumor.  High technology being what it is - fallible- we are taking the old tech way as the PET scanner is down.  Dozer's vet team did not want to delay diagnosis and treatment to wait  it to be fixed, so we went this route.

The plan is to start SRT Monday, then again Tuesday and Wednesday.  Then we come home after treatment Wed.  They are encouraged that so far they don't think there is too much bone errosion and we can procede.  Props to CSU Animal Cancer Center, they really care and do a great job.

Also, Connie, she does medical boarding for CSU patients at her Canine Health Resort.  She had Deanna have been very helpful.  Thanks again, Jerry.

Thanks to Dakota Dawg, we may take you up on that offer.  So far we're doing ok.clap

I am so very sorry-- I think all of us live in fear of something happening to one of the remaining legs-- and for it to be OSA just absolutely sucks. I am so sorry.  There have been a couple of recent radiation pups-- Happy and K (kbear) come to mind. By the way, I don't know which direction you are are coming from, but if you pass through OK on your journey to/from Colorado (I-35, I-40 crossroads area) and need a place to eat, rest or spend the night, we'd welcome you and Dozer.

Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011

Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011.  Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs.  If love alone could have saved you…

Thanks OK Scout for the offer.  We are from KY.  But if we make it that way we'll look you up.

Dozer is back at CSU for his CT scan to eval. the tumor and check on how stable the remaining bone will be.  Happy thoughts and prayers we caught it early enough.  Otherwise we are in a pickle because he has an atypical location, proximal radius "elbow" is not easy to rod or fuse.

My advice to any pet owner, tripawd or not, at the first sign of limping, licking, swelling get it xrayed.  Don't wait.  This SRT therapy has been shown to be the equivalent to amputation on eradication of the tumor.

Keeping pawsitive.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

GOOD NEWS!!!  Dozer's ct scan showed only the one tumor and can start stereotactic radiation on Monday.  We still have a long treatment road ahead, but that's ok.laughing

Dozer is having a rough evening.  Had his first SRT today.  But he also had to have an additional procedure this morning because they noticed a node in his arm pit area that was enlarged.  Thankfully it was reactive and not malignant.  But he is laying in the floor intermittently whimpering, I think mostly out of frustration of not being able to move like he wants too.  Last night we made a litter out of a tarp to pull him to the hotel door so he had the strength and energy to make it to the grass.  The help em up harness is beyond help at this point.  He has progressively gotten more lame in the front leg since we got here.  But he has also had A LOT of activity since we got here too.  We have adjusted his meds several times to help this, but he still is not sleeping.  (I feel like I'm talking about a newborn)  Shaun and I have taken it in shifts sitting up with him.  I think it is mostly a " I'm freaked out about this hotel", than everything he is going through. I so hope he feels better tomorrow.  Some reports we've had was there was relief by the next day, some reports were 2-3 weeks.   Here's to some sleep for all of us tonight.

I just bopped into the chat room to see if you were there; you might want to pay a visit. It's kind of busy and you might get either some advice or some moral support. If it's any help, I also went through the "I hate this hotel room" business when we were at CSU. I get it.

Sorry to hear about Dozer's tough evening. I hope he settles into hotel life soon and starts to relax and feel better.

Hang in there.

thanks for the adive on the live chat, i'm so sleep deprived i didn't even think about it.  so far this evening he is resting better.  we had an uneventful trip back from CSU, no snapping, and better mobility.  i think most of his issue was from the increased activity and manipulation.  his pain got out of control faster than i could titrate up his meds.  we will be so glad to get home later this week though.

Dozer is doing well today.  We made it home home about 11am.  We decided to drive the 18 hrs straight through as Dozer was content and actually trying to use his front leg.  The docs at CSU adjusted his meds again and did a nerve block before we picked him up, so we could make sure he was comfortable during the trip.  He spent several hours lounging in his front yard when we got home.  When we finally convinced him to come in he proceeded to try to chase the kitten we have.  She insistes taunting him, sneaking up to him then running off when he notices her.  She's is not very happy right now as she is confined to the bathroom downstairs.

He has actually gotten himself to a sitting position and putting weight on his foot.  All good news, just gotta keep him from using any of his fancy spin moves and fracturing his leg.

We did not start chemo yesterday as he was having issues with pain and swelling at the radiation site.  They felt it was a better idea to get him home and recovered a bit and start chemo 7-10 days.

Thanks to everyone for all of your support.  At times I had my doubts that we were doing the right thing.  But, now it's all good.  We still have a lot of recovery and treatment to go.  Seeing Dozer not in pain had been worth it.  Again, I can't exxpress how awesome the staff and students at CSU are; the radiolgist has already emailed us checking on him and sent some of his scan pics.  I'll post them later.clap
