Thanks for the advise rica55 & fetchon3 We already had the surgery scheduled for today. I decided rather wait another week or 2 we needed to get it done before his leg broke. Bandit went for amputation this morning. As far as I know he is doing fine. At least my son hasn't heard anything. We are setting up for the 2 of them to move in until Bandit gets used to the missing leg. He'll do fine but the rest of us not so much Bandit stopped by last night to say hello. As usual he was full of life. Smiles and kisses for everyone. He is such a goof WE expect he'll be home Tuesday. My wife is taking it off to pick him up. I am taking Wed off to watch him. Son needs all the $ he can get right so he'll keep working.
So glad that Bandit is doing well-he is so fortunate to have such a supportive family!! Thinking of all of you and wishing Bandit a smooth recovery.
Joan and Lily
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
You two are some awesome grandpawrents! Your son is lucky to have you and so is Bandit! Get some sleep tonight, as it may not come too frequently for the next few nights... Yey, Bandit! You are going to do SO well! Your energy and support will help you sail through post-amp!
ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Thanks for all your kind words
Maybe I should post the following in a new thread but I'm putting here also
The vets wants to biopsy the cancer. Seems to me they have already amputated it, why biopsy it? The vet was very sure it was osteosarcoma. Now is she unsure? I don't know.
We actually had the biopsy done before the amp (because Abby was so young and a mixed breed, we were holding out hope that it wasn't OSA), but I know it is quite common to have the biopsy done after the amp.
Hope the surgery goes well and that the recovery is not too bad!
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman.
