Me again!

Been looking at the K9 Immunity Plus and it seems that Elsa falls between the 'Large' and 'Medium' sized dog.  She's roughly 30kg in weight (think that's about 66lb).  From what I can make out, the actual wafers for Medium and Large are the same potency, it's just the amount that you give that differs.  Am I right?  In which case, is it therefore better to by the 'large' size as there's more in the packet?   So many questions.....smiley   I'd like to get some before we go to pick Elsa up so that I can take them to show the Oncologist.           She did actually mention that there was a great resource in Tripawds, so it seems that your reputation has spread far and wide!big-grin

Glad to hear that Elsa came through the surgery with no issues!!  I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that all continues to go well in the recovery and that she can come home on Friday.

I have been catching up with your story, and so sorry for the loss of your beloved greyhound Polo, and sorry for sweet Elsa's diagnosis as well. Yeah, sometimes those double whammys really can knock you down quite a bit.

I am happy, though, that she has gotten through her amp surgery well, and that her vets are taking precautions to ensure her the best care possible. There are quite a few others here with Tripawd greyhounds, and have very successful stories with them.

Since others here have given so much great advice, I just wanted to add my support, and that I know Elsa will do great with healing and beyond, and that there is a ton of fantastic experience and information here, as well as uplifting support. We are all here for you as you start this journey with Elsa.

Keeping you and Elsa in my thoughts,

Bonnie, Angel Polly, Pearl, and Zuzu

I know you are excited about Elsa's homecoming! Such a happy day! For me, I didn't even look at my Happy Hannah''s surgery site. I just looked in her glistening "high" eyes and clapped for her and told her what a good girl she was!

Jerry will chime in and give you advice on the harness size. She'll also mention sending your vet some brochures about our wonderful Tripawd Community. I love that your vet already k ew about what a great resource Tripawd community is!

Sending lots of hugs!

A quick update on Elsa.....

Spoke to the vet this morning - Elsa's very comfortable and sleeping, having been taken off the morphine-type drug and is now on just one intravenous painkiller.  They're happy that her pain levels are good so will aim to take her off the remaining IV painkiller later today and just administer an oral one.  She's yet to eat anything which they're not too happy about but said that it's quite normal as the painkillers often have that effect.   They will continue to try and tempt her to eat during the day.

She has extensive bruising which looks quite gruesome but apparently it's not unexpected with greyhounds ( - they are so special!).. Had she been a different breed of dog, then it would raise cause for concern.  Due to the ongoing monitoring of this, she will be in until at least Friday which  (although horrible for us) really is the best place for her.  Much better to be safe than sorry but I can't help worrying...

She can't get up on her own yet (or rather 'won't', I suspect!) but once helped up she will happily stand on three legs.  The vet is going to call again tomorrow with another update but I will call and speak to her nurse this evening to check how she's done today.  Although the vets are fantastic, I think it's the nurses who can give you the true picture as to how they are mentally.

And breathe.....

Yes greys are special indeed! You watch, as soon as the heavier meds wear off she'll start eating. It took our Wyatt Ray about 2 days to eat after his Fentanyl patch wore off.

I agree, nurses know exactly what's going on, they're the ones you bring donuts to when you're in a situation like this! 🙂

OK well here's to more pawgress, keep us posted.

STOP THE PRESS - ELSA HAS EATEN SOMETHING ! clapclapclap

I phoned the AHT to get an update from her nurse as to how Elsa was doing.  My heart sank when she said that they still hadn't managed to get her to eat anything, despite their attempts.  I mentioned that when we brought her home form the x-ray, I managed to get her to eat eventually by gently rubbing some of her favourite food (Lily's Kitchen) on her teeth.  She said that they would try that and has just phoned me back to let me know that it worked!   She only ate about a quarter of a can but it's a start!

Plus, she said that she managed to get up in her kennel on her own - I think my baby girl wants to come home! big-grin  Baby steps at the moment - what a roller coaster of emotions!  Just off to eat chocolate and drink wine.....! laughing

YAAAAAAAAAY FOR CHOCOLATE AND WINE!!!

Errr.....wait....I mean....YAAAAAAAAAY FOR ELSA!!!! clap

Getting n up on ner own AND eating some? HOPPY DANCE OVER HERE!!

Such a great update!

As far as tne K9.Immunity, I do believe my Happy Hannah had more energy as a result. As for the exact doseage, you can download Dr. Dessler's book..The Dog Cancer Survival Guide . He created the K9 Immunity Plus and I think you'll find your answer there. It's a great book written by Dr. Dressler snd Dr. Ettinger. He tends to treat more holistically and she is more conventional Western Onco. It's a really good blend of both.

Keep these great updates coming!!

Big hugs!

Dr Dressler's Guide is indeed a valuable resource, packed with info in ebooks, hard copy book, webinars and more. It also includes an Apocaps coupon.

But FYI:Dr Dressler developed Apocaps , not K9 Immunity —both of which are very beneficial for fighting cancer in dogs!

I actually managed to find a copy of the book for £12 on good old ebay - it arrived today and I just can't put it down!big-grin What a fantastic book!

Have also ordered Apocaps and K9 Immunity Plus which I hope arrive in time for me to take to see the Oncologist when we pick Elsa up. Really want to run it all by her before we start the chemo.  Am feeling a lot more positive and hopeful today - the fog and gloom is starting to lift and the sun seems to be coming out......smiley

YIKES!! Thanks for clarifying Dr. Dressler created APOCAPS and not K9 Immunity too!

I didn't mention earlier, but I also gave Happy Hannah Apocaps . She was 125 lbs at surgery...big dogs = a lot of pills = an "investment"!!

In tne book, Dr. Dressler addresses taking Apocaps during chemo. For me...and this was just me...I went ahead and gave her a reduced amount during chemo based on my interpretation of his advice in the book. I'm not a vet so discuss with your Onco.

You're doingmeverythingnyou can fornyour Elsa! I know Polo is watching over her...when he's not busy eating steak and ice cream and getti g tummy rubs from Angels!

Hugs!
