Background- I have a golden retrievers who at 2 yrs old was told it was osteosarcoma in her leg, I found a specialist amputated and did chemo and through the support of the wonderful people here we made it through she is now almost 9 and still going! But a month ago my 9 year old cat starting limping- my first thought was bone cancer. He seemed to get better and even jumped a baby gate but now is limping again. The vet did X rays today and said she is worried it's cancer. She wants to do a biopsy Monday and go from there. Also blood work shows low red and white cells but his liver and kidneys look good she said. Anyone have experience with something similar what did it turn out to be? Any help is greatly appreciated as he is my baby and I don't want him in pain .

Hello. That's scary for sure. I know you are looking for someone with similar experiences. I have a cat who had an amputation, but not because of cancer. I can say everyone here says cats seem to bounce back faster and adjust easier id that's any consolation.

I know it's scary, but hopefully it will be something less serious than cancer.

There will be more people checking in. I know there at least a couple cat guardians here who have experienced cancer with their cats. I am sure they will check in soon or you can check the Trikitty blogs. I know Mona had vaccine associated sarcoma. Shes the only one I remember diagnosis of off hand.

Smore is my tripawd kitty who adopted me one summer evening. She had an injury to her front left leg and had to have her leg removed July 17th. She was only 3 or 4 months old at the time. Now she moves faster than some four legged cats!

I know seeing a limp of any kind is scary. Try not to jump to worse case scenario. I know that's hard.

Sorry your kitty is having these issues. Have you thought abput having a Radiologist look at the xrays? Radiologists can sometimes make a better determination. Many here who have had bone biopsies found them to be inconclusive and/or very painful.

I can tell you that kitties do very, very well with three legs!

Did I read this right??????? BAILEY WAS DEFINITELY DIAGNOSED WITH OSTEOSARCOMA AND IS A SEVEN YEAR VICTORIOUS SURVIVOR?????? OOOOOOOMMMMMDDDDDD!!! What in goD's name was your protocol??

Hang in there and update us when you can!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

WOW. Ashley, we're sorry you're back but completely amazed that Bailey is still going strong! What a long road you've both traveled from your first visit here in 2009! Yes, in a separate post we'd love to hear more about Bailey's story over the years.

So about your kitty. I'm so glad your vet is on top of whatever this is. Too many would dismiss it until it got bad. But it could be soooo many different things. Your vet is being cautious and tackling it now, which is great! Try to stay strong, it's hard to not let your mind run wild, but just follow Bailey's example. You can do it!

Who is the vet? Are you still in North Carolina?

Hi there Bailey and family 🐱❤️

I cannot give you any advice as my experience is my Great Dane who also suffers from osteosarcoma and had her leg amputated recently plus chemo treatments.

But I want to raise a glass to Bailey for her SEVEN years survival 🍸in fact I want to raise an entire bottle 🍾 it is amazing and what an example to all of us!

I hope your worries will prove unfounded and Bailey can continue living a wonderful life for many, many years!

Sending you a big hug and lots of cuddles to your super kitty ❤️🐱💪🏽

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

Hi There!

Take a deep breath and focus on how well Bailey did with the diagnosis.  Even if you hear the worst, there is HOPE.  Never give up on HOPE!  Deb and Bandit
