Hello.  I am new here.  We have Bob, our dear, adopted English Bulldog.  He is a recent amputee, rear left leg, and now we have a diagnosis of histiocytic sarcoma.  I know it is a rare cancer, but I am searching for people to contact with who have experience with this cancer.  Thank you!

Hi, Thanks for writing.  I will try and get a Bob pic up.  I am not that savvy though!  Bob is 5 yrs old and he is one month post surgery.  I have to say the surgery was a great decision.  I am loving the quote I saw on here "Hopping on three legs is better than limping on four"  I think that is how it goes, and that is true for Bob.  His knee was painful and now that is gone.  His prognosis is not great with the cancer being aggressive, and has a tendency to spread quickly, but I am getting it together to do what is necessary for Bob to live as long and as healthy a life as possible.  Tomorrow we will go to our long time vet to discuss the chemo options and go from there.  I am all ears if anyone has any input into the type of chemo that seemed best, or holistic therapies, or simply their experience with histiocytic sarcoma.  Thank you. I think I successfully posted a little pic for the profile.

Just saw his avatar picture.....it doesn't get any cuter than that!

So glad he's doing weel sfter surgery! Yes! He is pain free!

Remember, Bob doesn't kmow, or care, about any ole' diagnosis or statistics! He's living in the moment, in the NOW! He's not worried avout a thing and he sure isn't letting ANYTHING interfere with his time together with you. That's one of the man great lessons they teach us n this journey.

I know it's scarey and upsetting beyond words. I also know that every dog is different and we have many success stories arou d here with dogs who have beaten the odds. Jerry says "statistically speaking, ni e out of ten statistics are wrong"!

Check out the links Admin. gave you and keep postinghere. I know others will chime in with specific information on this particular "diagnosis". I am sooooooo not computer oriented and cannot type worth a toot either, s Im no help on posting pictures or directingyou to the proper posts for i formation.

You have a great ttitude and Bob has a wnderful advocate inyou! And that makes a positive difference! Don't kow f yor regular vet is an Oncologists or f you jave access to one, but I would definitely suggest that. Also a great resorce a lot of us use is "The Dog Cancer Survival Guide ". A book written by specialist with a womderful mix of holistic and convetional. You can click on the Amazon icon here and order it. When ordering from Amazon it helps keep this amazing site on line.

I'll keep checking back. You are ot alone, okay?

Sending you and Bob, cute, cute Bob, love and supportive hugs!!

Welcome to the site.  I am glad you ordered the book.  I love Bob's little avatar picture.  Sounds like Bob is doing great with his amputation.  I am sorry for the diagnosis of cancer.  I can't help with that particular type as my Sassy had Osteosarcoma.  Use that link that admin guy gave 🙂

If you have any questions I am sure others will jump in about that particular type.  General questions we can answer :)

Hugs

Hi there. My Rottie was diagnosed with Histocytic Sarcoma three months ago. We elected to amputate and when they removed her limb they also informed us that the disease spread to the lymph node. I'm here to tell ho KEEP THE FAITH (easier said than done) because the only sure way of knowing if it has spread passed the l.n is to check. Dymond is three months post amputation and she is doing remarkably well. Today she had her three month check up and there are no signs of cancer. The doctor and nurse were extremely surprised because with the type and grade of her tumor they believed the disease should have progressed rapidly.

This website has helped me SO much. Educate yourself and commit to being determined to fight this with your baby. I can tell you positivity has made ALL the difference. Dymond is just as happy now as she was when I brought her home. Sure we'll face challenges, but we WILL face them together.

If you have questions, please feel free to email me.
Prayers and Hugs,

Katrina and Dymond

Hello Helen and Bob,
Glad to to hear you are doing well. I know what you felt like when getting the diagnosis with hystiocytic sarcoma, as that is what our golden retriever Tahoe was diagnosed with almost 1 year ago (valentines day actually). We are fast approaching 11 months post amp.
As for treatments, we chose to do 4 rounds of CCNU (Lomustine) administered orally. Tahoe responded well except for elevated liver enzyme numbers for awhile. All is good now.
As well we are working with Dr Loops, canine naturopath, also consulted by several people on the site plus a regime of supplements and diet.

If you need any specifics, more than happy to share.

Good luck and have faith that Bob can have some good, long quality of life.
