Me and my little lab girl, aged 3.5 years, have been very much into gundog training. Diagnosed with ostesarcoma she lost her left hind leg in December 2024.
As gundog training was a big part in our life, we want to start again - esp. as Poll has such great fun in picking up dummies and balls, working together with me, in groups with other dogs. I want to start smoothly as she still has to learn a lot about balancing her body, esp. on bumpy grounds or in the woods.
Within all theses thousands of people in this forum is there somebody else interested in this topic or training a working dog? I would be more than happy to exchange experiences, training plans and and and....
All the bests
Susanne
Hi Suzanne, thank you for joining and posting. We're sorry you had to join our club, but you are in good company.
I'd like to point you to our other discussion forum called, "hopping around" where you might find more answers and input from to a question like this as this area is mostly about medical discussions, but regarding your question about training, my first question would be has your dog seen a canine rehab therapist? If not, that would be the best place to start even though your dog is probably really fit being on three legs has new challenges as you know and a therapist is the best place to figure out what they are and how to overcome them. Tripawds Foundation can even pay for your first rehab visit !
But meanwhile I'll share a link with you to a legendary Tripawd that was part of our community for many years. His name was Bart and he was actually on the cover of gun dog magazine one year and he was a canine AKC national champion!
I'll share the link below and back with some more feedback but if you'd like, please post a new topic in hopping around MM for more feedback.
