Hello, I posted last week that a specialty surgeon recommended that Chloe Sasha have her front right leg amputated due to a fast growing tumor that cannot be removed without damaging her leg. I saw my vet on Saturday morning and boy was it an emotional visit. He said he looked over the diagnostics and recommendation from the surgeon and he also feels the best thing for her is amputation a.s.a.p. They are very concerned with the swollen lymph node on her neck on the same side of the leg with the tumor. They are removing it as well and sending for biopsy. We will know more after biopsy, if cancer spread. Unfortunately my vet was very emotional as we discussed because he had just put his furbaby down the night before and he was the same age as Chloe. We were both having a difficult time. He wants to do the surgery on his first surgery date which is this Friday. As I mentioned before I thought I would have to drive the VA to Helping Hands because of the cost from the quote the surgeon gave me but thank goodness my vet took care of us. He was at the same cost as Helping Hands and was appalled at the surgeons quote. Said I can just give half and pay off the other half on a payment plan. We hugged and are praying for the best. Then I went and bought Chloe a new orthopedic bed , two shirts that I sewed the right arm holes and new food stands so that she doesn't have to lean down for eating. I'm trying to be prepared but emotionally its kicking my butt. I'm getting jitters, doubts, fear. I just want her to be strong for her but I know on Friday it will be a day of tears, all day.

I just want to say thank you for this awesome site and all the valuable information. I have been here only a few days and I feel I have already learned so much on how to be a better pawrent to my soon to be tripawd. I will post on her post surgery or maybe even before as I may need to just vent my fear and tears that day.

You post a dozen times a day ifnyou need to! We all understand the emotions of this journey and we are right here by your side!!

That little Chloe Sasha is ADORABLE!! One way you can help m pass the time is post more pictures!

Your vet sounds like a very kind and compassionate Soul. Please convey my heartfelt condolences to him for the loss of his dog.

You have a plan and now you can move forward. You are doing everything possible to ensure good quality time filled with more loving and spoiling than you ever thought possible. And you are doing a great job preparing for her comfort during recovery.

Remember, Chloe isn't worried about a thing!!! She's just wondering why she's getting so many extra treats!! Speaking of treats, grab yourself some CHOCOLATE, it does wonders to help calm the nerves!

STAY CONNECTED!!

Love!

Sally thank you so much! Your kind words and encouragement is beyond helpful. THANK YOU!

My vet is wonderful, the whole staff is. I drive 40 mins away from my home for him and believe me I have plenty of vets around the corner but I want quality care.

My little princess is probably thinking exactly what you said.. why so many extra treats? LOL but her brother can't stay behind and we are giving him the same amount LOL if it wasn't for this site I would be lost and would not know that I needed all those things to prepare for her to come home. I found a nice soft harness to use on her because I'm not sure how to help her use the bathroom the first few days. you think that will help?
thanks again!kiss

Awww, glad we could help. We ALL need some reassurance sometimes to help us get out of the "worry wart" zone!!

The harness sounds like a great idea...especially if you can put it in her ahead of time and she can get used to it. I didn't do that with my Happy Hannah ( a big chunk of a girl...125 lb Bull Mastiff). When I tried ro use a towel sling to help her when she first came home she just froze up..would. ot budge!

Hopefully your Chloe won't be so silly!

Give Chloe and her brother a vig smooch for us!

Love and hugs to all!

Chloe Sasha is adorable!  Sorry you have to be here but it sounds like you and your vet have a good plan and are moving forward.  We used a harness almost right away for our Max. He's a big boy at 110 pounds so we found it helped us a lot. Once Max started hopping around he didn't like us "helping" him so we would let him do it himself but with the harness on we could quickly grab it if he looked like he was going down. Good luck on Friday and let us know if we can help in any way.

She's beautiful and lucky to have such a wonderful family! This will be a stressful week for you, for sure; try hard to stay pawsitive for Chloe....I know, easier said than done. It sounds like you have a good grasp of the situation and what she needs so far, and that's half the battle. Will she be spending the night after the surgery, or will she come home? It really is agonizing leading up to the BIG day - we cancelled our first surgery due to unconfirmed biopsy results - so we faced the BIG day not once, but twice.

Have you gone to the live chat here? It's a great place to "talk" to others who know what you're feeling. The great people here have talked me off the ledge more than once.

Good luck, keep us posted and let us know how you're all doing.

Hi Linda, Bob, Max, Paula & Nitro
I'm hoping the harness will help in the way that I imagine but then again we won't know until the day. I'm just trying to be prepared for everything. Unfortunately she is not staying overnight, coming home the same day but I think its best for her to be home. She will have less anxiety she will stay in our room. We will make her as comfortable as possible.
I have not checked out the chat room , I'm tempted to but kind of shy... silly right? I know I will before the week is out because everyday my anxiety builds a little more.
Thanks for the advice and support!!!

Really glad to hear your vet is so accommodating, that's awesome.
Yep, the week will be nerve-wracking but we're here for ya. You're doing everything right by preparing your house and her environment.

Don't be shy in the chat, jump on in, we don't bite 🙂

What a beautiful, sweet name, Chloe Sasha. Just as sweet as her picture . . . (heavy sigh).

I tell ya, I think it takes a special kinda soul to be a dogtor. In fact, I bet there's a special medal that's pinned on them when they get to the Bridge. If not, there should be.

Any-hoo, bless your heart! All of us have gone through the exact same emotions you're going through, including being shy in the chat room . Once you find out we're the same as you, you'll kick yourself for feeling that way in the first place, LOL!

Just like you, we've all waxed-and-waned with anxiety regarding the surgery and recovery of our fur-babies. And, just to let you know, this will be just the beginning of a continued eagle-eye over your babies for as long as you chose to have a pack. It's only natural when you love as deep as we do.

So, to reiterate others, we are here for you and there's nothing you can't say amongst friends.

xoxo

Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

Hello Jerry & Pam, Ron, Melody, Meesha
Thanks for the support I will definitely try the chat room 🙂 Pam, I totally believe vets have a medal waiting for them when they get to the bridge as well. I can't imagine doing their job day in and day out. I love animals very much and I cannot pass a dog by on the street that I don't stop to talk to, even give a kiss to at times... my friend thinks I'm a loon because that's what I do on my lunch hour.big-grin
