Well the Oncologist called to confirm its bone cancer.

I wanted the staples out and She wanted to start Chemo so we got the stitches out and had our first chemo today

She will be more comfy without the damn sataples that's for sure!

Steak for Dinner again with Ice cream for desert!

STITCHES ARE OUT!!  ONE CHEMO ALREADY DONE!!  AND COOKIE GETS STEAK AND ICE DREAM!!!  All is good in Cookie's world!  She didn't hear a word that Onco said avout "confirming this ir confirming that"!!  All Cookie cares about onfirming is she's pain free and getting  steak and ice cream!! 🙂

Let us know how she's doing with the chemo.  Most dogs don't have side effects, some have a vit of nausea and lethergy sometimes.  The Onco may have sent you home with Cerenia if she does get an upset tummy.

Speaking of tummies, give that sweet Cookie some tummy rubs for us!

clapThat is great, she got her staples out earlier! It is amazing how much a few prickly staples out makes such a huge difference, huh? Oh, and steak and ice cream to celebrate, Cookie is one happy dog right now!  You are well down that recovery road now and that is a wonderful thingwinker Hopefully she will get through the chemo treatments without any problems!

Ni Jackie,

It's wonderful she got the staples out  She slept much better in one spot all night but the chemo probably had a little factor in that she's a little tired from it but I am aware that is totally expected. The only pain she was feeling was when she would PLOP down on her right side where the staples were and give a little yelp but that will be no more as the incision is healing very well.

I also talked to the Oncologist Valerie Wiles and if she does good on her chemo and qualifies I am going to try the Listeria vaccine. I have plenty equity in my house and can use that to get the funds if need be. The way I see it, we've gone this far and I see no reason not to go on the vaccine as it could give extra years. As long as it is GOOD QUALITY time of course.

When I come through the door and she greets me with that mighty tail wag and she enjoys her food and is NOT in any pain and jumps for joy when she knows we are getting in the car to go somewhere, I know I'm doing the right thing. When people talk to me about my decision they assume that she will be a cripple. I suppose they have never had an encounter with a tri pawd or they would realize that they needn't ask such a question like" Will she be able to walk" I tell them  Go to you tube and type in three legged dogs and you will be quite surprised at what you see.

Those that say, Doug " She's just a dog" Really don't get it do they? I do understand that there are many who simply do not have the funds to afford treatment though, and my heart truly breaks for those families.

We are going to make the most of our time and every weekend I'll try and take her for a drive to somewhere for her enjoyment. The Beach, the Mountains, a hiking trail etc.

If I ever became wealthy ( Not Likely) I would create a fund for those with animals needing treatment that need financial help  I truly would.

At the very least we will become ambassadors for the tri pawd nation, joining the many before us showing the world that tri pawds ROCK IT big time

and I will send some more pics of her and you don't have to use every one just choose a couple you like.

I know I should figure out how but being single ( I have a roommate June, but I cannot expect her help, although she truly loves my dogs, but she cannot handle stress of any kind) and trying to keep up with work and taking care of Cookie I have limited energy and my job is so very stressful its all I can do to keep my head above water.

Hi Doug,

I would be happy to post some more pictures for you. Yes, there are an amazing amount of people that have no idea what kind of life a tripawd can live. That is one of the things so special about this place, pretty much everybody here has or had a tripawd and knows they can still lead a wonderful life! It is just the best support group around heart

"Just a dog, cat, ____ <-- fill in the blank"  That is them, tripawd, no tripawd, just not animal people. I know plenty that think I am off my rocker doing what we have done for our furbabies. I kinda feel bad for them because obviously they have never met that special kind of love and bonding. I wouldn't let them stop me though. I live my life, you live yours, and we will agree to disagree... period.

I am glad your girl is doing so well... she has totally rocked this, and so has her papa way-cool

Hi Jackie,

I was just getting ready to post an update and saw your question.  It's amazing. You know I set myself up to work from home as I  literally did not want to leave her side until the staples were out. Monday was the first day back to work but I was feeling really good that she was out of pain and happy, and I felt OK to get back to my regular schedule.

I come home and get greeted by the Same Tail Wagging Love muffin as before the surgery. As you all know, we doubt our decision right through the surgery and the first week but now I am so absolutely positive that I did the right thing.

They really do adjust so well. She has a habit of running around like crazy to find her nearest ball to chew as soon as I get home from work  and jumping up on the bed with me with that crazy happy tail wag as I change out of my work clothes ( No Idea why the font just changed) Well that Cookie is BACK and it fills me with Joy so deep there are no words

The first Chemo was Friday and the only thing I noticed was a bit of an energy dip for 24 hours just like all the other bloggers mention.

The hardest part is behind us thankfully .  I also ordered k9 Immunity plus and have been researching other great supplements. Mostly I will be feeding real Chicken breast ground beef and steak with some egg and some cottage cheese and well I'm still researching optimal diet but I want every meal to be a treat for her, I use Taste of the wild Grain free as far as dry food, just not sure how to mix that into the recipe just yet.

I could not be happier with how she is doing.  Now I'm off to the store as we are out of Ice cream ( Her new absolute favorite treat, although I know I should not give that every day!)

I will send you more pics soon.

Thanks to you and Sally and Karen and all the Tri Pawd parents for the wonderful support and encouragement you provide.  I don't know how I would of gotten through this without ALL OF YOU.

Cookie wants to LICK all your faces off  hahahaha

Oh thank you!! I haven't gotten a good pittie kiss in too long!!!

Yes you did! That is a fantastic gift! Better than a birthday gift 🙃

I'm so glad you're all doing well. My damn phone is giving me time of trouble right now, think I need to reboot so I'll make this short. Thank you for the update, did my heart good!!

Gotta take those pictures when she doesn't know you're doing it lol. Can't wait to see them 😎

You just made my day!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Grinning ear to ear over here!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Seeing Cookie do her "usual greeting routine" had to make you feel soooo joyful...soooo proud!! 🙂 🙂

It took me three weeks before I could say I did this FOR my Happy Hannah and not TO her!   Yi4ur sweet Cookie is ahead of the curve!  Quite the Super Dawg!! 🙂

I gave my Happy Hannah k9 Immunity also. I couldn't always give it to her consistently.  Big dogs eat big doses of everything!  I do feel like, when I could give it consistenly, it gave her more energy.  Of course, her other "supplement" of ICE CREAM gave her energy too!  Well, that's what she "told" me anyway!winker

We have a Nutrition link that has a variety of tips for good meals for the dogs and cats.

And tell Cookie we appreciate her kisses....and we're smooching her right back! 🙂
