Hi everyone,
My 14-year-old cat rapidly developed a large mass on the side of one her rear paws. The vets have recommended amputation and the surgeon wants to take the entire leg at the hip joint. I've read that an amputation of the thigh bone can leave a small stump as well as rump padding that can make the cat more comfortable for sitting or laying.
Does anyone have anymore information about these options? The surgery is scheduled for next week and obviously needs to be done, but I'm trying to decide if I should advocate for the partial surgery.
Thanks for any advice or recommendations in advance!
~Franz

I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. What's her name?
Yes we do have information about partial versus full leg amputation. Here you go:
Partial vs. Full Leg Amputation for Pets, What’s Better?
Have you asked the surgeon why they are preferring to do it that way?
Let us know what you decide.
