That could be it - vet floors are notoriously slippery! I hated that for my tripawd! Did you get a harness yet? There are also boot-like things called 'Pawz Dog Boots"...they are like balloon-like material that are good for traction . They aren't for long-term use however; I made that mistake and came home from work to find Nitro's foot swollen 3x its size! You can get these at Petco.

Remember when you see him, to be upbeat and positive - even if inside you are nervous or scared. I remember being so afraid to see Nitro for the first time, but knew he would take his cues from me. When he came hopping down the hall, I dropped to my knees, with tears running down my face, and told him he was beautiful!

If you don't have a harness yet, and it seems like he could use a little support, you can always take a cloth grocery bag, open up the seams, maybe put a blanket or towel on the inside, and use it like a sling. Make sure the vet sends home adequate pain meds, and be sure to give them according to the schedule. I set alarms on my phone to make sure we didnt miss any. It's better to stay ahead of the pain then to try and play catch-up.

Good luck! You've got this! Reach out if you need us

Oh I'm so glad to hear that! Be sure he has a good supply of pain medication to take home. When animals are snippy that's a common pain indicator, so keep an eye on any behavior like that. He's going to be so excited to see you 🙂

Hello! Thank you all for your support and advice. I did get a Ruffwear harness and I will look into the 'Pawz Dog Boots". Anything that will help him i will try. I will definitely keep an eye on his behavior so that I can make sure that he is not in any pain. That is the last thing that I would want. I didn't even think of pain being a reason for him behaving that way. I can't wait to see him and get him home.

Hello! Sebastian is now home 🙂 and I was wondering if anyone had experienced their fur baby not showing any signs that they needed to go out and going on themselves (just pee). It has now happened three times in just a short amount of time and I didn't know if this was normal or if it possibly had something to do with the pain medication?

Hi, glad he's home! We didnt experience the wetting on himself with Nitro, but I think others have seen this. I would think being medicated heavily could contribute to this...not pleasant i'm sure, but better than him being in pain. I would just put some pee pads under him for the time being. Besides this, how is he doing?

SEBASTIAN IS HOME!!!  YAY!!   AND PEEING IS GOOD, NO MATTER HOW OR WHERE HE GOES!!

Yeah, as Paula said, peeing in their bed is perfectly  "normal" sometimes at firsr.  You can chalk it up to the meds.  He still has hospital  meds in his system too.  He's  very relaxed (in a drugged up sort of way)!  Tight now he doesn't  even realize he needs to pee, much less that he has peed!

Certainly  itf you have concerns,  call your Vet.

So I went out last night late after he continued to pee to get some pads and diapers. I was so afraid that if we went to sleep and we didn't notice right away that he would get his stitches wet. We live out in the middle of no where so it took me a while to get there and get back. As soon as I walked in the door my husband greeted me and said that Sebastian had just spent a long while outside and he had peed several times. He said that he just sat up and and started to make noises like he always did. My husband asked him if he needed to go pee pee and he stood up and went out the door. He said he did so great but had to make several stops to rest. I just laughed and thought he knew i was going to get diapers and was like heck no i am not going to wear one of those..lol

Whatever it takes, right? Nitro had several bouts of incontinence, especially towards the end as his kidney failure worsened. This is a very early attempt at putting diapers on him...we got really good (and way more stylish) later on.

Thank you all! I can't say how much it has meant having you all here to talk to. It makes a huge difference being able to talk to someone who has been through the same situation and gives such encouragement. I have a video of Sebastian this morning but I am not sure how to post it.

THANK YOU!!!
