I am not certain, we were not sent home with a cone only because we talked about it prior to taking him in and agreed the onesie would be a substitute for the cone.
It had to be covered. That was what we were told.
Purrkins would of messed with the incision if it was not covered. I can't imagine them not sending one home. I had previous experience with Purrkins trying a cone on 4 legs and it didnt work ,he fumbled all over, so I wanted anything but the cone.
There are alternatives to hard cones ,soft cones, inflatable cones, if Lynx doesn't do well in a cone. If your really lucky like tri kitty Mona she didn't need anything, she didn't mess with her stitches. Kerren would have to tell if she was sent home with a cone? Most are.
I used baby t-shirts too. I will include pictures so you can see what we did. This is just a alternative to a cone. I cut the bottom of the onesie off, sewed the one arm shut.
this was the baby t-shirt . They did the job, kept him from the incision . I still checked it daily and changed the onesies.
Great "how to" and picture tutorial Holly! And, of course, Purrkins looks adorable!! 🙂
Sending all sorts of pawsitive energy to Lynx tomorrow!! YAY!! Great xrays!!!

Here's a copy of a post Hattie just made about her senior cat Jerry. Hr was 24'st the amputation...is now 25 and doing very, very well!!!
really enjoyed looking at your photos of Shmagegy and reading about his journey! He is one lucky kitty to have you and your boyfriend taking care of him!
My elderly 14 ish year old cat was diagnosed with a chondrosarcoma in the summer of 2015. The vet took his shoulder blade and front right leg. My cat (Jerry) had a few recovery issues such as excessive itching near his incision which caused bleeding everywhere, missing patches of fur, had us on a phantom limb drug for a spell, and even went to get acupuncture, before it was discovered that he just had a raging infection from all that itching. I'm happy to report it has all healed almost 18 months later and Jerry, at 15 is doing awesome. He can do everything he did as a four legger. He eats well, grooms, purrs like crazy, and is playful. He too, has taken over my dog's large crate. I put his litter box in there and his food and a bed, so he can go in there to get away from the dogs if needed.
I know that getting the amputation was the right decision for him and us - he still has a lot of life left in him, and it seems like it is still of very good quality. I took him into the vet's office the other day because everyone requested I bring him in (they love him there- very cool, laid back cat and long story short, he needed an emergency blood transfusion after a bad reaction to a medication one day after his amp surgery. He was "a few minutes from death" when our vet rushed into the office to basically revive him). Jerry got a great exam and vet says he looks awesome for a 15 year old kitty. I hope Shmagegy gives you years and years of joy ahead, too! Take care,
Hattie and Jerry
