So sorry to hear about the diagnosis and everything - I notice you're in NC? Since you were going to State, are you close to Raleigh? That's where A'Tuin and I live, though he didn't get his treatment there, we went a little south to my stepmom (though she did her residency at NC State). It sounds like Jake has a loving family and I think you made the right decision for you and him. We are here for you and if you're close to us and need an in person shoulder to lean on, we should connect!

A'Tuin's story can be found on my personal blog along with a dash of my life and poetry.

I said goodbye to my puppy love on 5/15/14 after more than tears years of the greatest love I've ever known.

How is Jake today? I hope everyone is doing well. My Tripawd Lucy was diagnosed with a nerve sheath tumor almost two years ago. MRI was hard to read but after 3 readings we were told there was a mass in her right armpit. She had surgery about a week later. No tumor found. Biopsy on bone, tissue and nerves. Degenerative nerves found and thought to be the source of limp and then atrophy of front leg.
Lucy was 7 at the time, or almost 7... We had so much to be thankful for, she was tumor and cancer free. It is still hard to think about, "what if the MRI had not shown a mass". Lucy is healthy and happy today. She is still her crazy loveable self with a few more anxieties, as is prone to border collies. Her walks are shorter but we still must go often, sometimes just through our community each night and the trails on the weekends. Even without the "c" diagnosis I wisened up on her diet and switched to grain-free food, added vegetables and lean meat, a glu/chon supplement as well as salmon oil and probiotic. I want her happy and healthy a long time!!
We'll say a prayer for a happy journey for Jake and all of you.
Mary

Lucy's front right leg was amputated 12/19/11. Thankfully there was no tumor, but her nerves were found to be degenerative.  Life as a tripawd is Lucy's new adventure!!

Hello and thanks to all who are praying for Jake. I will post a photo of him soon. I am on an iPad and I think i need to be on my desktop to do that.

The prayers are helping. Last week Jake started falling daily with his back legs giving out. We thought the time was near. But this week he seems more lively and wants to be petted constantly and to give kisses. He even played with his favorite toy, camel, for a few minutes yesterday. He is losing control of his bowels....just kind of goes when laying down. Not sure he knows he does it. But, overall, he is not in pain except when getting up and down. He is going in for acupuncture for pain and on some Chinese herbs as well as traditional pain meds. We are hoping he is with us at least for a month more or longer.

We are in central NC, a few hours from Raleigh. But, NC State are the experts in NC so we went there. Again, thank you all. I will pray for all your babies as well.

Well, all an all for a senior with Jake's eleoquence and grace, this is a prett good update! Seniors without anyof those "other" issues, have trouble getting up and down and a little incontinent here and there, yeah, just goes with the territory! Being "uncomfortable" sometimes from "senioritis", is very different than being in chronic pain.

Have you tried usng a towel sling to nelp him up and movng?

Remember, Jake doesn't kow he's "sick" and he is not worried avout a thi g! He is thoroughy enjoying being in the present withyou! One thing this journey teaches us is, try not and let worries or fers of "the tomorrows" rob you of the wonderful time you are having together now! Jake's spiriit is strong!

Can't wait to see pictures of your lovely Jake! And his camel too!

Boxing up some camels for you right lw Jake! Enjoy!

Love,

Sally and Happy Hannah

Well, Jake is hanging in there.  Sweet as ever.  Very hard time getting up and down, but still giving occassional kisses!  I cannot figure out how to post a photo within this message, but I did make my avatar his photo.  This was taken just a week or so ago.  Thanks for the prayers.  In return, I am praying for all of you and your babies.
