anyone out there know of any place that makes/sells something that i can place on his stump to protect it from hitting the ground?
he's slipped and fell a couple times, and lands on his stump (sticks out about 2 inches), and yelps and whines. I know it's gotta hurt like a bugger landing on a bone like that, and i'd like some way to absorb some of the shock if he does slip.

What a good question, I think it's a first here. Just curious, but is your Tripawd new at living on three legs? While occasional spills do happen, perhaps he just needs more time to figure out the balancing act? Also, where is he slipping? If it's in a place in your house, you might want to put down some non-slip rugs or rubber surfaces to help him get around a little easier.
But to answer your question: we haven't heard of any assistive devices for stumps, but try these two companies to see if they can help.

My Yorkie puppy's front right leg was amputated before I adopted him. There is no stump; but, the clavicle?/shoulder? bone protrudes slightly. When he stumbles, he hits it, and yesterday he developed a hygroma over the protrusion. I've made a doughnut pad and placed it under his sweater to protect the shoulder.
I'm wondering also if there is a protective vest on the market. I emailed DogLeggs. Otherwise, I'll sew one up!
Hi there.
I am in the similar sort of pickle with my tripawd. Her back right leg is fully removed last June (picture here) and about a month ago a I noticed a grape-sized lump on the back side of her stump - right next to her bum. The lump was removed last week and the biopsy came back today. I don't have the full name of what it was, but the vet said that it was a pressure-related growth. Because she now puts so much pressure on that area while sitting/scratching her belly, it made the cells grow weird and a lump popped up.
I've been trying to find/come up with an idea of something that could help her not put so much pressure on the area. Perhaps I could fashion her padded pants!

I'm not sure either what might be available for her situation. Padded pants sounds darling though. Maybe you might want to talk to the Orthopets Custom Orthotic Braces and Mobility Devices people?

my dog has developed a hole on his elbow, He has occassionally had a cut there which would heal but on returning from holiday I found it had gotten much worse.
I had two eyemasks from the plane and have joined them together in a v shape. I cut the two peices of elasatic on the narrow end and swapped their positions . both elastics go over his head with his remaining leg in between them.
So far so good.
I adopted a three legged husky mix from bosnia last week. Her left hind leg has been amputated about hi alf abyear ago so she has gotten quite used to the tripod life but she has the same problem. Her stump sometimes drags on the ground and gets all scratched up. I work in a 3d printer workshop so I've already designed a prosthetic for her but i want to wait at least a year before we try it out. Right now im working on something that will protect the stump from objects she might bump into or in case it hits the ground, if im onto something ill share it with you and maybe we can develope a project so other owners can get one for cheap.

Thanks for adopting this sweetie! I hope her stump doesn't pose a problem as time goes on. Unfortunately we see this quite often, and if it does the dog or cat may need an amputation correction surgery to remove the stump. I hope not, because if she has at least two joints, she would be a good candidate for a prosthetic.
I'm glad you said you are waiting to try the prosthetic you made. Please consider consulting with a canine rehabilitation therapist before using it, as sometimes DIY prosthetics may do more harm than good. I'm sure the one you made is awesome but an expert can let you know for sure. The best part is that the Tripawds Foundation may pay for your dog's first rehab visit ! So please take advantage of the program.
