If anyone has already shared this I'm sorry for the repeat, but I just discovered Ruffwear's new harness, the Front Range.

I have both the doubleback and webmaster harnesses. I used the doubleback for my Jake (front amp) and the webmaster for my Tanner (rear amp). The only complaint I have had with both of them is that we needed a harness with buckles on both sides. Most dogs have no problems balancing but trying to get 1 of 3 legs into an arm hole is not the most fun event especially when your pup gets bat sh*t crazy excited when he knows he's going somewhere. So I was extremely happy to find this at REI today:

http://dogblog......g-harness/

There is no "arm hole" per se so this would be a great harness for either a front or rear amp. There is no handle, so I don't see it being beneficial as a lifting aid...but for those of us using it to distribute weight more evenly while on a leash (collars tend to knock our guy off balance when he pulls), this is awesome.

PS: I am not a Ruffwear rep.......I just really really love their stuff.

Hey Elizabeth,

Thanks for sharing, obviously we're big Ruffwear fans too! We haven't put the Front Range in our Tripawds Gear Store for a few reasons, namely that it's not an assistive device, just a walking harness, and since there's a lot of walking harnesses out there, we didn't want to confuse people. Based on the design and our convos with Ruffwear, we didn't think it would be very useful for Tripawds...but you're finding that it is? Hmm. Ruffwear says this one is flying off the shelves, they can't even keep it in stock. Maybe we should re-think this one. What do you think?

I need to have someone video Murphy when we put on his Ruffwear harness .  He gets VERY excited, too, but somehow he taught himself how to work the harness.  He sits down and raises that front paw so high that he almost knocks himself over.  We started by telling him to "gimme five".  He took it from there.

This new harness looks like something that might be good for our walks in the neighborhood.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

I would love to see that video Kathi! Teaching a Tripawd how to balance to put it on is quite a feat but it's definitely possible.

If you're interested in the new Front Range harness too and think it would be useful then hmmm, we just might to start carrying it!

Wow, Kathi, I would loooove to see that too! We can't get Tanner to hold still for a second and getting the webmaster on him usually takes two of us. I love the webmaster but its not very practical for everyday use on a tripawd that doesn't need assistance (other than a scratch behind the ear he can't reach lol).

Jerry, definitely not an assistive device. I think both the webmaster and doubleback can't have buckles on the sides because of the safety factor. They just aren't very conducive to (my) every day life. I have looked through tons of harnesses and I had yet to find one that fit as well, doesn't rub, distributes weight pretty evenly or held up to my crazy Tanner so we continued to just battle with the webmaster.....until now :) I think for our tripawds that just need a good everyday harness, this is it!

I had posted a photo of Tanner on a hiking with dogs Facebook page (which, off note, has 3 tripawds as members) and someone mentioned how much they love this new one, but like you said it was flying off the shelves. There was one hiding on a rack at REI and I snagged it. I'll get a picture later with it on Tanner. He's still in bed snoozing.....lucky dog.

Great feedbck. Elizabeth I'd love to see pics. I think we're going to try it out on Wyatt and see how it goes. I do like how easy it looks to put on and off. For us, it wouldn't be as practical since we can't hoist Wyatt up into our truck with it but I do see how for just  hanging out in the 'hood it's cool. The Convert Harness we carry is the same concept, just one buckle and whammo, you're ready to go. It also has a handle on top for lifting, which is why we love it.

ONE buckle? Whoa, I totally missed that one. This was so easy to put on, and for that I am grateful! You have no idea how manic this fella can get LOL

Here is Tanner and his new harness. Apparently a photo shoot is not happening at 9pm....Tanner said he didn't care if I was trying to show everyone on Tripawds how handsome he was in his new harness, it is past his bedtime.

Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. And Elozabeth said...."You have no idea how manic this fella can get LOL" But those of us at the Virginia Tripawd do!!! And we all fell in love instantly...all the dogs AND all the humans! Murtle was a little tiny bit intimidated and kept hiding behind Elizabeth! I think WHEN we all get together again though, Tanner may be hiding behine Elizabeth!! Tanner would nip at everybody's mugs, especially their cheeks! Merry Myrtle watched.....she has too much smoochable mug to be a good nipper, so she developed her own strategy. Itt called bumping, knocking down and then sitting on her prize!

Tanner, you look so precious in your poctures...so docile, so gentle, a poster child for the art of a meditative state.......great acting job Tanner! Academy Award performance!!!

Oh Tanner! You need to learn how be a photo hog like our Wyatt! Too cute.

Yep, the Convert is a one-buckle harness, super easy. However thanks to your input we'll be demo'ing the Front Range, it does look like it'll be helpful and of course if it's RW you know it's great! Thanks again. Stay tuned for an update.

Here is the video of Murphy putting on his Ruffwear harness .  We probably shouldn't have waited until after his walk to do it.  He is much calmer than he normally is when the harness comes out.  Still, you can see how he lifts his leg up to put it through the strap.

I love this!! Domino does the exact same thing! I've always thought it was the cutest thing, but he's always way too excited to go out for me to get a video. Getting his harness on is the easy part, getting it off is always a challenge lol.

Here is Murphy taking his harness off.  He has had close to two years of practice on this.  It just seems to get easier over time.
