hi there

Molly was amputated almost 9 months ago. We have been taking her for blood work every month and X-rays everything three months   So far she has come back clean every time.  Since Friday though we have noticed she has been having difficulty with one of her back paws and hasn't been putting much weight on it.  I spoke to the vet yesterday and they told me if she is eating drinking and going to the washroom then to wait to bring her in until Monday because weekends are just emergency and it was likely I would have to bring her in again on Monday anyways.  I'm curious if anybody has had found themselves in similar situations and what you have done.

First of all, YAHOO for good blood work and good xrays!!clap

Gosh, the paw coukd be sooo many things...a sprain, maybe a sore tendon that gives the appearance of it being paw related, a toenail issue that isn't visible to the eye, something embedded in the paw and on and on. Is it swollen! Sore to the touch?

The vet should be able to figure things out and get Molly all straightened out in no time! Try not to worry. Sounds like she's doing great!

Will look for an update Monday.

Hugs!

Murphy sometimes has a day where he is acting like he's in pain, so we keep some pain pills on hand for him just in case.  Normally just 1 pill does it and the next day he's back to normal.  smiley

That is so pawesome she is doing so well!

This could be so many things, hopefully nothing serious. I'm betting you've been to the vet by now. What did they say?

So the vet says is looks like she has a partial cruciate tear - they are recommending at this point 2 weeks rest - no walks, no stairs, no cars, etc., and we will see if she recovers from that. In 2 weeks she is going for her chest xrays at which point they will also take an xray of her knee to see how bad it is (even if we find she is doing better) and recommend further course of action at this point. I'm going to do some research on tripawds with cruciate tears but if anybody has any advice that would be greatly appreciated

Thanks for the responses

That's a pretty common potential diagnosis, we hear it a lot around here, it even happened to us. Hopefully the R&R will help. Did they give you any pain control help? You might also want to consider acupuncture, it works really well in this kind of situation. Also check out the article "Managing Soft Tissue Injuries," for more tips. If in 2 weeks she's still not well after R&R and pain management , you'll want to get another opinion from a board-certified ortho vet and even a rehab vet before you proceed with any surgeries, just to be sure.

Hang in there and keep us posted on how she's doing.

Thanks for the update. Glad they've figured it out and now you have a treatment plan. Yeah, ditto Jerry as far as what meds did the vet give Molly?

Often these types of "issues" take more than two weeks to see real improvement.

Hang in there! Molly sounds like quite a little champ!
