Just thought I would mention this in case some poor soul stumbles across it in future and is able to obtain some reassurance.

Last night, I went round to my neighbour's for dinner. I got back around midnight and Meg was asleep in the armchair. She seemed fine, lots of hugs and tummy tickles, and I gave her a bedtime biscuit. She did not get out of the armchair, but that's not altogether unusual. She's a bit of a 'you come to me and pay homage' sort of a dog.

Anyway, I went up to bed, leaving the light on for her to follow, which she generally does pretty much immediately. I must have fallen asleep the second I lay down (full disclosure: a couple of glasses of wine had been consumed), because the next thing I knew it was 4am, when I woke up to realise Meg had not come upstairs.

I went down to find her lying on the sofa. She seemed rather subdued, and when I tried to encourage her to come upstairs, I discovered that she wasn't able to stand. Her front leg was just completely useless. It wasn't that it was giving way (which has happened a couple of times before), it wasn't able to support her in any way at all, just completely useless, like a rag or something.

I carried her upstairs. She didn't seem to be in any pain, and I checked her leg very thoroughly and manipulated it. I was so worried her elbow had collapsed, and maybe she was in shock or something, but I checked her gums and her heart rate and so on, and there was no indication of anything like that. The leg itself seemed perfectly fine, she just wasn't able to use it. So then I thought she'd done her shoulder, maybe fallen and twisted getting out of the chair, or something like that. To be clear, there are steps for both the chair and the sofa, which she ALWAYS uses, but I though it must have been something like that, and of course, I felt absolutely terrible that I had been sleeping upstairs, quite unaware.

I debated whether to take her to the emergency vet, but by this point she had fallen asleep, and was snoring quite contentedly, so I thought I might as well wait until morning, though this would still mean going to the emergency vet (i.e. calling the vet out. there's no ER round here), as today is a Bank Holiday in the UK, which means everything is closed. That's typical Meg, she always times her 'mishaps' for the most inopportune moment possible. Her initial elbow fracture occurred on the first day of the Queen's diamond jubilee. There was a four day holiday, plus street parties closing half the roads between me and the emergency vet.

Anyway, I didn't really sleep, just lay beside her stressing and imagining all the weeks of rehab that lay ahead, and trying to keep her entertained when she wasn't able to do anything, and of course all the worse scenarios as well.

So, this morning I tried to get her up, but for AGES she just kept rolling onto her back and wanting tummy tickles, and I was like PLEASE will you just try and stand up so I can see how your leg is, and she was like, nah more tummy tickles please.

So finally, I said to her, look if you get up NOW and come downstairs then I'll give you some chicken. Okay? Otherwise, nada. I expected her to try and stand up and find her front leg couldn't support her. But instead, she just jumped up, danced down the steps off the bed, down the stairs and out to the fridge, where she stood barking for her chicken.

Her leg was TOTALLY FINE. And she was hugely pleased with herself.

So the moral of this rather long-winded (sorry) story is... well, I don't know, but basically, my conclusion is her leg had gone to sleep. She had dead-leg and she couldn't use it, and given that there's just the one in the front, this obviously meant she fell over every time she tried to stand.

Either that or it was payback for the bloomers trim that she'd endured earlier that day...

The End.

We're going to have to rename this girl Megadrama!  How scary Clare!  So happy to hear all is ok now!  That sound you heard was us the tripawd nation letting out a huge sigh of relief 😳!!!  If memory serves me right I think you wrote about this happening one time before a while back and how she was able to shake it off then too.  I'm guessing if she lays too long a certain way that leg must fall asleep and go a bit numb on her and she can't feel it.  Or as you say payback for trimming the bloomers......with Meg one can never be really sure can one? 😂😂. One thing for sure that girl always keeps you on your toes!  Much love to you and Megadrama and Angel Pie.

Glad to read all is ok now PHEW! Enough with the scares Meg. That is sooo typical to have emergencies when things are closed, and the ER is the only option thankfully neither was needed.

Didn't this happen one other time before? I hope she is 100%!

Thanks, Linda and Holly. Yes, you're right.  It did happen a few months ago, but to Elsie, not to Meg. It was very similar in that her whole leg went TOTALLY lame for several hours, but in Pie's case, because she had three other ones, she wasn't falling over.

Anyway, she is absolutely fine, and has just enjoyed a good ol' roll in the mud.

OMG!!!! Talk about a heart-attack in the making! Oh Meg ... chicken is a powerful motivator for sure! 🙂

I recall years before Shelby was ill and was doing some limping and I stressed myself out. Took her to the vet and she ran in ... literally ran to her buddies... showed me! I am guessing the same .. she had slept funny or something or overdid it but I do know she loved to cause a panic attack.

Now if I see Jasper limping (since she is small) I pick her up, check paws for twigs or burrs and then place her back down and tell her to shake it off and she usually does. But limping will always cause a panic!

So glad Meg is fine (and that you were able to enjoy wine w/some friends... cheers)! heart

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

You littlee poopicon_png winker!    Hooooow could you do that to her??   It causes her  such stress and such weird things to happen!

And yes Meg, I'm talking about your Mum!!way-cool   How could she possibly trim your beloved bloomers and expect you would just accept. that act with civility and grace with no consequence??

That picture speaks volumes abput your thoughts on this whole ordeal!   I have to say Meg, you are part Clownclown

Dear sweet Clare, I am soooooo glad, soooooo glad, everything is okay with the Meg-a-Star 🙂 🙂 🙂   SO HAPPU!-! 🙂

Then, of course, you have smart virl  Meg who knew she could milk it for extra  tummy rubs this morning and a few extra biscuits!

I can hear The Pie at the Bridge now telling everyone, "Yeah, that is sooooo Meg!  Once Mum messes with thos bloomers, Me WILL find a way to retaliate!!!"

Oh Meg! You just know how to scare us don't you? I'm SO glad you are hopping around again! Your momma's gonna need a few more glasses of wine just to recover from the scare you gave her 😉

That's happened to Wyatt Ray once or twice. He got up after laying down all afternoon watching us work, and when he stood up to go out, his rear leg buckled. Scared the heck out of me but after he moved around a bit more, he was fine. Admin and I both chalked it up to his leg fell asleep and so far so good. It makes sense that that would happen to them, since it happens to us humans too.

Thanks, everyone.

Cheers to you too, Alison! 🥂

I do know she loved to cause a panic attack.

Quite. This would seem to be something Shelby and Meg have in common....

Sally, I don't know what to say to you, I really don't. Why, only yesterday, (or was I dreaming?) YOU were advocating a bloomers trim for the MegaStar yourself... And here you are washing your hands of the matter. It won't do, Sally. It will not do at all! It is weird though, because I don't know if you remember the time of the great bloomers massacre, she blogged about, maybe six months after her amputation, it was literally the very next day that she kept falling over and freaked me out completely, and it turned out she'd pulled a muscle in her shoulder. http://megsta.t.....-bloomers/

And now, again. Although thankfully this time it was a false alarm. It does make you think though. And seriously, I know it sounds bonkers, but I would not put ANYTHING past the wretched creature.

PS.....Would loooobe to see a picture of Elsie and how she would respond to Meg's "get-back drama"!

Your wish is my command.  This is Pie's sceptical face. (Love you, Sally ❤️)

Rene, thanks for telling me about Wyatt Ray . As you say, it does make sense. With Meg's history, I always fear the worst, but there it was just a run of the mill dead leg. And thank heavens for that!

HaHaHa Jackie!  You nailed the "looks"

Okay Meg, Im BUSTED!    Those dang bloomers of yours are topic of conversation yet again!  Ya' see, I've always been an advocate of keeping your bloomers fat and fluffy.....until I'm NOT.....until I am again....And then not...okay, you get the drift!

Ohhhh myyyy....so much for trying to "do quotes" and then "reply in a white space" to a specific quote   On my tavlet everything shows up in the yellow block.........okay.....never mind!

It all boils down to this Meg:.   I'm busted!!!!   HOWEVER, your Mum may be onto the previously unexplained phenomenon known as "Meg's Revenge of the Bloomers"' so you may have to come up with another "technique" to express your displeasure! 🙂

Love you right backheart

PS. Yes Jackie, "little poopicon_png" is a Southern term of endearmentheartway-cool

Oh yes Sally, I think "littlepoopicon_png" is a universal term of endearment, lol! When I said the poopicon_pngpoopicon_png was flying I meant there's just a lot of 💩💩 hitting the 14986.png

lately for so many people here...

I'm really relieved that the Mega Star didn't get caught up in it.
