My dog is a pit bull she is the most loving dog I have had, to have 3 legs she's very happy and the only thing that keeps her down is the pain she has. She didn't lose her leg from cancer she got hit and they couldn't save her leg. I adopted her when I was working at the humane society. I love her to death and I hate to see her in pain but I don't have the money to take her to the vet. So does anyone know of some vitamins she can take or some type of pain meds from over the counter? Thanks for any help in advance!!!

Hi Calypso's Mom,

Thanks for joining us here. I'm so sorry to hear she is in pain. What kind of symptoms is she showing? And what kind of activity has she been doing lately that you think might be causing it?

Many times what looks like pain is the result of a dog overdoing physical activity and not resting enough. If she is pretty much on her own when it comes to playtime and fun, it may be that she's trying to do too much. How closely are you monitoring her activity?

Unfortunately it usually takes some professional help to determine the cause of acute pain. We can help you narrow down the causes, but a vet is the only one who can really help you with a diagnosis. Be sure to write down all of her symptoms, when they started, and how long they last each time she shows she's in pain.

If you don't have any money right now, call your vet and ask if you can work out payment plans. Most vets are agreeable to working with patients on some kind of arrangement. You'll never know until you try, so please try so that Calypso can start feeling good again. Keep us posted OK?
