Hi my 11 year old golden retriever Lola had her front left leg removed at the end of August- she’s doing well adjusting though limited on what we can do distance wise whilst we build strength and don’t over do it to protect her good leg. I’m wondering if any trawpawd golden retriever owners have used a pram to help them get out in more adventures and if so if they recommend any specific models?

Hi there! It was so nice chatting with you in the Tripawds Chat today. I'm so glad you posted. Your future posts won't need to wait for approval so post away.

As I mentioned, our favorite prams are in these posts, and our Wyatt's pram aka stroller is this one. It works great for large dogs! Still the best one out there. The large wheels make a big difference. We are trying a pram with small wheels for our current dog Nellie, and smaller wheels are great for pavement but not off-road on dirt.

Also, I forgot to mention that Meg and her pram/stroller are doing quite well together too. They're in the UK.

And to learn more about how to keep Lola fit and strong, we highly encourage a visit to a physiotherapist. They can show you excactly where and how she needs to strengthen and build endurance. And Tripawds Foundation can pay for your first rehab visit too so you've got nothing to lose! We hope you'll take advantage of the program.

I'm curious which stroller you're using for Nellie?  I intend to get Loki a stroller for carting her around at nosework trials (which is still a ways off for her).  I have my eye on one that looks like it would be easiest for a quick in-and-out, but good offroad handling will be important for navigating camps.  The one you used for Wyatt looks extremely long, but I do like the big wheels.

We are using the PetGear Expedition Stroller. It's really easy for traveling to events, much easier than the bigger one. The Expedition sets up and breaks down in an instant. But those smaller front wheels are not great for loose dirt or sand. I haven't gotten totally stuck pushing 65 pounds of Nellie around, but came close a few times.

That's the one I have my eye on.  I really like the low platform and the zip-less entry.  Loki is a long dog, but luckily only 40ish lbs.  I fully expect to have to deal with dirt or mulched paths at nosework trials.  I may have to reconsider something with the bike-style tires.  Those look more challenging to get in and out, but being able to get around is more important.  I wish I could go somewhere and try out a few models before committing... Thanks for the info - it's good to know.

Thanks, I will start a new thread when I'm closer to making a purchase.  I don't have enough need for a stroller just yet to be ready to commit.  Probably sometime in 2023.
