I did a forum search and nothing seemed to come up for dog beds…
I've always bought Dixie's basic dog beds at Ross or TJMaxx — same brands as Petsmart/Petco but much cheaper! But she's getting older, and probably stiffer, so I'm looking for a good bed for her.
I've found a few good looking beds on Fetch Dog but they are quite pricey, especially since Dixie needs a medium/large bed.
Anyone have some home remedy dog bed suggestions? Or if you've purchased one of the expensive ones, does your dog seem to love it like no other bed?

If your handy with a sewing machine, pick up some 3" foam padding and fabric and sew a cover. This worked great for Jerry when he refused to sleep on an expensive "orthopedic" dog bed we bought him!

A baby crib mattress is what we use for Harley, our 85lb Rottweiler. It seems to work really well for him and his size. It's also nice you can get crib sheets in any color to match your decor ... and it is so easy to change the sheet when it gets dirty and needs washing.
Amputation on 11/10/09, due to Histiocytic Sarcoma in left elbow. Angel Harley earned his wings on 06/24/10.

We found a nice, large dog bed at Costco last week - for $17.99! It has quickly become Holly's favorite place to sleep - seems very comfy. If you have a Costco near you and are a member, it's a great deal. It's 40" in diameter (it's round), and covered on one side in an upholstery fabric and the other has a sheepskin type fabric. It's 5" deep. There's a picture on Holly's blog - it's way bigger than she needs!

I saw this article in our local newspaper in AZ about a women on a mission to build beds for every dog at the Maricopa County Animal Control East location. She makes PVC/sunshade fabric beds.

I buy the padded cushions for patio lounge chairs for dog beds. They are about 3 ft wide and 6 ft long. I got some for $5 each (off season) that are machine washable for the porch, and then two really thick fluffy ones at a thrift store for indoors for $4 each.
We kinda go through them fast right now. My puppy is just nine months so she still likes to chew up the cushions when nobody is looking....... nothing like little pices of foam everywhere.

When I used to have 3 big dogs and was on a tight budget and wanted the beds to match my decor, I bought 3 matching cheap pillow cases in a standard size and sewed them together side by side. And then I bought 3 cheap standard pillows and put them in the cases.
If you don't need really big ones, then just do 2 cases. And if you don't have a sewing machine, then take it to the dry cleaners. I can't imagine a straight stitch would cost more than $5.
Here's a diagram since that probably didn't make a lot of sense!

Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
To answer your question about them loving better beds...
I don't think so personally. Comet loves clean beds over comfy. I can throw down a clean towel on the floor and you would have thought it was a down comforter!
Under my desk, I have a 4 inch (i think, may 3in) foam I bought and had cut at JoAnn fabrics. I have a twin size sheet over it, with the left over tuck under it and also a soft throw. She loves it. In her sleeping bed upstairs, I just have 3 old heavy comforters folded on top of each other. But they are in the corner between the nightstand and dresser so it's like her "area". I have to fluff it (or pretend I am getting the cooties out) every night or she won't get in bed! I'm not joking either! She'll lay outside of the bed until I get it ready for her!
I've seriously thought about the crib bed, but my husband stopped me when I was looking at them at Walmart one day and reminded me that Comet has too many beds already. You can barely walk in our house without tripping on a bed for Comet! He put the kabosh on anymore!
And I didn't want to admit that I have lounge pads on the back porch for her! I couldn't bring myself to throw them away when I bought new ones mostly! Between the treadmill, stair stepper and lounge pads on the back porch, it looks like Sanford and Sons!

Any house with more dog beds than human furniture is our kinda house.
