Hey Cassie it's been a while. How's Domino and the pack doing?

Hey! It has been a while, its been a crazy few months. Everyone is doing great! Domino is completely back to normal and is wearing his brace during activity. The new puppy is growing like a weed. It's hard to believe she's almost 7 months old already. And Finn is being Finn lol. He goes to the vet today for a check up. I hope you guys are doing well also! I need to get on more often to talk to everyone!

Domino had his left front leg amputate on May 13th 2014 after being hit by a car. He's now living a happy healthy life on three legs :)
Great news! Thanks for the update.

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Yay for your pack Cassie! I'm thrilled life is good for everyone
I especially wanted to find out about Domino, because Manni in German may be having a similar issue with his carpal joint. See:

thank you!! Yes he is. he fell twice and hurt himself somehow. he's on rest and metacam now because the carpal joint is swollen and warm (although I would have bet on elbow or higher...). I thought maybe it's time for a brace now, too. Vet said she's not convinced because the split-variety takes away mobility and the bandage-one doesn't support enough.
So Cassie, what is you experience with the brace?? I'll also check with our Physio tomorrow. I am also not really convinved of that solution but I'm also scared to go without...
thank you,
Tina

Good update Cassie! Give Domino and teddy bear Finn a big smooch for me!
Yeah, maybe Domino's experience can help Manni 🙂
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Hey Tina! Domino had a similar problem. He would yelp it he landed funny on his carpus, and he was "limping" on his remaining front leg. He was taking very short strides when he walked. I took him to his rehab vet and she recommended a lot of rest, massage, heat, as well as the brace. Domino's brace is more of a "sport brace", its very lightweight, I believe its made of a neoprene type material. I was worried it would be too light, but its not. Domino wears his during any activity that is more than just being around the house. So if we play outside, or go out somewhere or on a walk he has his brace on. I still don't let him wear it for long periods of time, I have noticed he seems to wear out quicker with the brace on, I think just because he still isn't 100% used to it yet. It definitely helped with his recovery from his injury. I would apply heat to his carpus for about 15-20 mins, do a massage session, and then he would wear his brace for a while. My rehab vet recommended the brace to help with the current injury as well as help prevent further injury. So far so good. I hope this helps!! If you have questions about which brace I use for him, feel free to message me and I can send you the link.

thanks Cassie! I'll be at the physio's today and I'll ask for her opinion on the brace, too. Thing is that Manni hurt himself indoors. We have not had any issues outside yet and I don't really intend to let him wear it indoors I guess.
I've seen those sport braces made of neoprene and that's what I would probably go with as well. Although I heard that you should have them custom-fitted because they tend to otherwise chafe the skin too much?
I had x-rays done of Manni's paw and carpus and while it looks really really good for a ten year old with three legs there is, of course, some arthrosis (I expected there to be more, actually). I'll talk to the pysio about this and see if a brace might bring some relief for that as well. The vet at the clinic said that she is unsure if his "limping" is from the accident or the arthrosis. I think it's both, to be honest, and I just want to preferably find a way to prevent this in the future. so we'll see, I guess.
Thanks for the help!!!
