HI all,

I have posted a few times in the mobility forums about our dog 12 yo pup Boon and his journey with amputation surgery for histiocytic sarcoma (Nov 28, 2018) in his front left joint leg. He took about four weeks to start really coming around and walking, being himself, etc., when he had a fall that gave us all a scare and a major set back--he didn't walk or stand for almost two weeks and we were facing a lot of unknowns. HOWEVER, with a ton of support from a holistic vet, rehab, acupuncture, cbd oil, etc he has started to come around--he even is standing unassisted and hopping a bit on his own. It all looks miraculous. I wish I could upload a video I took yesterday...he had the techs at rehab in tears!

Now we got bad news--there was a small lump on his hind end that was aspirated and found to have cancer cells. The oncologist is taking this as a sign that the cells have migrated from the original joint tumor and have lodged themselves in other parts of his body. He has not had x-rays yet of the chest to see if it has spread internally, but the doc said if the chemo (he has had 2 treatements of CCNU so far) doesn't shrink it, he will be "re-staged": ie., checked for dissemination internally. If nothing found, great, they will just lop off the lump and we continue treatment as scheduled. If something is found...that is where I am terrified and just can't go. I know I have read other things about lung mets that don't exactly mean it signals the end, and I want to stay super positive, even though I know this cancer is notoriously aggressive.

We are throwing every possible thing we can think of at this to make sure the cancer doesn't have a fighting chance. I'm wondering if anyone else has tried things to shrink tumors (especially with histiocytic sarcoma), and if anything helped? Or if anyone had experienced mets and found a treatment that shrunk those?

Any help and is appreciated, as well as prayers and healing wishes!!

K, W, and Boon

TRY not to jump ahead okay?  Easier said than done.

Right now the Boondog is doing so incredibly  well!  You have to remember,  Boon IS  a miracle dog and continues to defy the odds!

I love the reaction  of the techs yesterday.  We MUST have a video!  Others will come along  and tell uoj jow to fo thst.  I just know you put it on YouTube first and then "copy link" from there.

And yes, there are some things  that show promising  results with mets.  Metronomics,  palladia, to name a few.  Also,  IF mets do show up and symptoms do eventually appear, there are many treatments  to keep symptoms  to a bare minimum  and extend  quality  time.  The thing to remember right NOW, is Boon is symptom  free and getting stronger and stronger.

So the best "advice" for now, again, don't  jump ahead.  Deal with what you know right now, Boon is d6 so well and he is a miracle dog!

We're  all cheering for the BoonDog!

You can! The easiest way to share videos here is to upload them to YouTube first (or Vimeo). You can then paste the share link in your forum post and the movie will auto-embed for all to see.

...if anyone had experienced mets and found a treatment that shrunk those?

Search these forums and the blogs for many treatment plans and stories about metastasis. While the goal with metastatic cancer treatment is what oncologists call "stable disease" we did see shrinkage in Jerry's first lung mets after starting him on metronomics and K9 Immunity . Find plenty of helpful links in this topic discussing Jerry's metastasis treatment plan.

Use the Advanced Search above to refine your forum search results with specific phrases, and you're sure to find much more helpful feedback. You can also search all blogs here .

Boon is such a ROCK STAR! superstar He has come such a long way, what a joy to know that everything you've done for him is making a difference in his mobility! When you share the video please do it in your original post about his mobility issues so folks can see how he did. YAY!

Ugh, that stupid cancer. I'm so sorry. You are on the right track for a good mindset during this part of the journey so stick to it, you're there. OK I agree, don't panic. Let's get all the facts in front of you before jumping ahead to what if's and treatments that may not apply to his situation. When you have the facts you can make a plan.

Do check out the links Admin shared, and don't forget that every dog is different. Boone is a FIGHTER and he clearly has a strong will to stick it to cancer!
