I just switched Atlas to Keto Natural for the base of his food. I've been adding eggs & yogurt to it for his first meal. Then ground beef, chicken or sardines & cooked broccoli for his second meal. I've also just ordered flax seed oil which I'll add, too.

Good to know I'm not the only one using the low carb kibble.. Ketona…  How did you hear of this product?  I read somewhere,, cant remember where,,, that when cooking the meat,, you should use low temperature..  I'm not using a thermometer,, but I do cook the ground turkey  over lower heat,, and stop while its stil pink   , I usually cook a 3 lb package and that lasts 6 days..... or I use a 1 lb package and that lasts 2 days..  I also  alternately add the sardines,, wild caught salmon,, raw egg,, fish oil.. etc..  ( in addition to my supplements)

my holistic vets reply to both low carb kibbles.. ketona and  keto kibble:

these diets are still processed with extrusion methods- high heat processing.
the types of foods are way better - but the heavy heat still promotes inflammation and creates carcinogens.
So - it is up to you what to use; but Paradigm and freeze dried diets would be a better choice.
I realize that simplicity is a key factor in decisions. So, just do the best you can.

Thanks for sharing.

I agree, doing the best you can is better than nothing at all.

I received a reply from the owner of Ketona kibble.. that I now feed to Simon .. I know another member uses this as well,, so I wanted her to see this post:

  A few caveats:

I won't be going back to my vet with this response. not looking for a trade war.. lol.

I think that holistic vets can be a bit strict in their nutritional guidance

I've made my decision on this and can always change if something better comes along

I won't be afraid to change.. I read that even healthy dogs should eat a varied diet . where you might consider changing up pet foods periodically.

Ketona response,, daniel.. the owner..

With all due respect to your veterinarian, I'd suggest that his/her beliefs about the relationship between extrusion and negative health outcomes are not supported by any kind of valid evidence whatsoever. I've personally researched and written about this subject about as extensively as any person on the planet, and I can tell you that there is no evidence of which I'm aware that supports her beliefs about either inflammation or cancer. (See, e.g., here and here.)

I'd welcome the opportunity to see any evidence that I'm not familiar with, but I'll tell you that I'm hugely skeptical of this perspective. If I were you, I'd ask your veterinarian for the evidence upon which his/her beliefs are based and then I'd compare that with the record I've compiled on the issue -- then you can judge for yourself which perspective has better evidentiary support and make the best decision for you and your pup.

Thanks for reaching out. And thanks for your business!

Very interesting.  Thanjs for sharibg.  Daniel  seems to be very confident  in all his research and obviously quite  knowledgeable.

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
