Today i bought some goats milk for my other dog who's having allergy issues. I read online and saw all the great benefits of goats milk and am thinking it could also benefit my other dog Louie who is my large breed front leg tripawd due to bone cancer. The only thing i am worried about is that we have been very strict with his weight as the vet said he could lose another 10 pounds to be at his ideal weight being a large breed tripawd. I was just wondering if anyone else uses goats milk and how much do you give? On the carton it says for 50 pounds and up give 3/4 of a cup daily. I just cant help wondering if that would make him gain that unwanted weight.  Im wondering if it would still be beneficial if i just gave it every once in awhile. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I know that people use goats milk for picky appetites, but as a regular treat kind of thing I'm not sure what kind of calories that would add to Louie's diet. I would think that a simple non-sodium beef or chicken broth would be a nice substitute and you won't risk adding more calories to his bowl.

You can ask your vet about the calories in goat milk and how they would affect Louie. If they aren't sure, then a credentialed pet nutritionist can tell you.

Have you considered getting Louie into a canine rehab therapy clinic? If so, the Tripawds Foundation will pay for your first rehab visit . We can help you find one if you'd like. These experts can show you the safest and best way to help him drop extra pounds. Rehab is soooo beneficial.

I have thought about it, i just dont know that i could afford the extra cost. Im already going broke for this dog 😭 and im only 21, so i dont have the best cash flow coming in lol. Hes going through chemo still and that including his amputation, plus getting homeopathics and ozone therapy at his holistic vet, ive had to put everything on credit cards. Also currently having car issues. Its tough but he is worth it. I think i will definitely look more into it once i am a bit more stable with my money. I really think it would beneficial even after all of this is done so i can manage his weight better.

What other sort of things will a rehab place do? They could also help him gain his strength in remaining limbs right? Ive been super interested in doing some kind of hydrotherapy with him.

Brownie loves hydrotherapy and the cost is not that bad. It was 50.00 a session at his Hollostic vet.

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!

Just want to add that, even if you can just do the first consult with the Tripawds Foundation help, you can get a lot of ideas that you can do yourself at home.

BTW, your pups are clearly very well  loved❤❤❤

Here are some examples of members who have taken advantage of the Tripawds Foundation Rehab Reimbursement Grant:

You'll learn so much, and don't forget we will pay for that first visit. Even one time is helpful.

Also, check out Dr. Debbie Torraca's Tripod Dog Home Rehab Tutorial. It's only $50 and suuuuper educational. She is a great therapist, one of the first who wrote the book on it.

Meanwhile don't knock yourself for a lack of funds, we totally get it. You are doing such great things for Louie, he's a very lucky pup.
