Hi, I am writing regarding 4 yo Rocky, osteosarcoma amputee.  Some people on a turmeric group insist that golden paste is superior because it uses whole turmeric in contrast to the Longvida curcumin I purchased. I don't completely understand this, as curcumin is the only real component of turmeric I am after. http://www.vete.....ht-Cancer/

What would I gain by switching to golden paste? Does anyone know? Thank you!

I'm very sorry to hear that Rocky has osteosarcoma. I don't know about the difference between the two products because golden paste contains curcumin. Your link however is for dogs with osteosarcoma, not for cats. Cats metabolize medications and supplements differently than dogs or humans do. Certain medications that are safe for humans and dogs are toxic to cats.

I've yet to find scientific research that shows curcumin is effective as a cancer treatment. One research study was to determine the effectiveness for feline vaccine-associated fibrosarcoma which found that in the lab curcumin could possibly be effective except the quantity required would be impossible to administer it. They stopped the research and it was never tested on cats for this reason.

You might want to consult with a holistic vet as to the best product for what you are trying to achieve. I took Mona to a vet for a chiropractic treatment and they put her on a medicinal mushroom supplement which is suppose to have cancer fighting properties. I leave it up to Mona if she wants to eat it or not, some days she does, some days she doesn't so her brother Eli eats it.

Perhaps others could help with your question. Have you read Jill's blog? She had osteosarcoma: http://jillsjou.....m/2012/12/

Thank you! Yes, I know the link was re: dogs.  We cat people do not have many resources in terms of feline osteosarcoma, do we? 🙁  Maybe that will be better one day! My holistic vet recommended curcumin but didn't seem to have much of an opinion on the form. I believe he also recommended the mushrooms you mentioned, and I will consult my list. Thank you for mentioning those. Have you seen this article? (Human article, and yes, probably grasping at straws but not many other options):

Hi Cami. Yep, as of now there are few resources for cats with osteosarcoma, so I feel for you. I'd be looking for anything that could help as well.

Through the years we've seen many pet supplements have their day in the spotlight as the latest holistic cancer therapy trend. Curcumin has been in the spotlight a lot lately. But as Kerren said, so far all anyone knows for sure is that the mega doses needed for it to be effective are difficult to maintain, and I'm betting would also taste pretty horrible to anyone, human or animal. My own feelings are that if my animal would find it horrible to ingest, I would too and would pass on that as a potential therapy for my own situation.

If your vet isn't a holistic practitioner for cats, consider consulting with one who can guide you in more proven holistic cat cancer therapies. You can find a holistic veterinary medical provider at the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association website directory.

And yep, veterinary medicine is evolving so quickly. I have no doubts that in another few years we'll see far more resources for cat cancer treatments, holistic or otherwise.

Hi Cami,

I give Curcumin for Pets from Dr. Mercola to both our cats.

I give this scoop in a little bit of turkey and gravy baby food, once a day, they eat it right up.

Here is a link and information on it.

Our holistic vet uses this ,run it by your Holistic vet see what they think.

Dr Mercola also has a mushroom complex .They are quality products I trust ,organic and no GMO's .

Hugs,

Holly, is the flavor masked somehow in the product?

I tasted itlaughingit doesn't have a flavor to me.  Dr. Becker explains it all on the video.

http://products.....-for-pets/

I always taste everything before tying to give them anything .

Kinda know what kind of a fight I will have and how I will mask the flavor. This isnt a fight at all.  Its a tiny scoop too ,you dont have to give alot of it.

Hope that helps.

Oh wow interesting! I'll check out the video. So I figure then, if there's no taste, the cats and dogs don't mind it, it's affordable and of course it can do no harm, then I think I'd be more willing to try it. Thanks for sharing, it does help.

Thanks everyone! Right now, I am pilling him a capsule of curcumin, Longvida formula (with coconut oil), and it is supposedly well-absorbed and a relatively high dose.  The holistic vet was OK with this. I ordered Mercola Astaxanthin  (krill oil). I will check out their turmeric! Thank you!!
