Can anyone tell me anything about K-9 Immunity supplements? http://www.dogcancer.net/
I was poking around the net and found info on it, but wanted to see if anyone has had any success with it and would recommend it. it seems so expensive (for a 125-lb. Great Dane at least).
My Nova just had her amputation Tuesday, but will be starting chemo in 2 weeks. I am interested in learning about any types of natural supplements or things you might recommend.

Hi Dane Mom Sue, K9-Immunity is a blend of medicinal mushroom extracts, such as maitake, shiitake, reshi, cordycep, and many others. They are supposedly very good to the immune system. Some testimonial posted (not sure if they were real though) on dogcancer.net and its forums actually said the tumors shrunk.
Jerry had been on the K9-Immunity clinical trial togther with metronomic protocol after the discovery of lung mets in March. I started Genie probably too late in the game on K9-Immunity, and it probably was like trying to put out forest fire with a bucket of water.
Here is another place you can order K9-Immunity & K-9 Transfer Factor in bulk. works out to be better deal than Aloha Medicinal asks for.
Wish your girl have a speedy recovery!
Hugs.
Thank you, Genie. Where is the place you can order it in bulk? Also, what is the difference between K-9 Immunity and K-9 Transfer Factor? Is it necessary to take both? I see that they have Fish Oil supplements that they recommend on there. Is their kind better? Or can I just get regular human fish oil supplements?

Sorry, my bad habit of always forgetting to put in attachments or links!
Here it is: Birkdale for bulk deals.
Individual product in bulk from Birkdale: K9 Immunity, K9 Transfer Factors.
K9-Immunity is the one with medicinal mushrooms (in capsules). K9 Transfer Factors, I believe, is with IP6 and SOD which the info from Aloha Medicinals says it compliments K9-Immunity for better absorption. They say you don't necessarily have to give K-9 transfer factors but they recommend so.
You can give your own fish oil. Human grade fish oil is great.
If you need more techical info about the products and how medicinal mushrooms will help cancer patients, in Aloha Medcinals website (dogncancer.net), go to the link "News and Research", there are lots of studies, papers, literatures in detail.
Terrific, thank you! I noticed on the site you mentioned that the products have the same name, but the labels look different than what I saw on the Aloha Medicinals site. Is one better than the other?

They are the same. (I actually phoned Birkdale to ask the same question)
Aloha Medicinals sells them from their sites and dogncaner.net. It also distributes bulk and/or retail sizes to others.
Thank you for the bulk info. It looks like a big savings, especially for a giant dog like Nova. It all seems so expensive, but I guess if you look at it, it is a fraction of the cost I will be paying for chemo. What's a few hundred more, right? My big girl is worth every penny!

Be sure to read this page also to make sure the dosage and administration is ok with the chemo, or better yet check with the vet. There are conflicting messages out there, some say it is ok to give K9 Immunity during chemo, some say it should be stopped a few days before and after chemo.
Hi Sue! Hi Genie!
Genie, thanks for your great info, as always.
Yup, I was on K9 Immunity . My pawrents and I really think that it helped to buy me more time. And if you can buy it in bulk, even better. I was lucky, I got into a K9 Immunity clinical trial program.
My advice is to find a holistic vet or acupuncturist that has experience with it. I was lucky; my oncologist, Dr. Mullins, is a believer in it, so she knew the circumstances in which it was best to take it. I did take it in conjunction with the Metronomic Protocol I was on, but I don't know if she gives it to her clients that are on IV chemo rounds.
But, you can ask Dr. Mullins herself soon, because she will be doing an "Ask the Vet" chat here at Tripawds after Thanksgiving! Stay tuned....
PS: Don't forget to search my three-legged dog blog if you can't find answers to your questions in these forums.

You folks should be careful, read this document:
http://www.scri.....-Complaint
According to the lawsuit, Birkdale was originally getting the medicinal mushrooms from Aloha (manufactured in Nevada), then slowly started infringing on Aloha's trademarks, and mis-representing the source and origins of the medicinal ingredients to mislead consumers into thinking that Birkdale was the manufacturer of the product(s). Aloha further alleges that Birkdale then started inserting cheaper/inferior ingredients from overseas into the product they were (are?) selling, all the while using Aloha's trademarks.
The Birkdale link posted above leads to the http://www.k9cr.....lcare.com/ website.
If any of the claims made by Aloha are true, I would suggest that you may be taking great risks with your dogs' health at the expense of a bit of money.
If anyone has any solid information/information regarding Aloha's lawsuit, it would be interesting to have it posted here. I can only find the information I posted above regarding the lawsuit, I cannot find any updates.

Well said, Richard. That's why we recommend everyone do their homework when it comes to choosing the best cancer care supplements for their dogs instead of just trying to save money.
We gladly welcome any valid information others may have regarding this suit.
Thanks for sharing.

So a lot of folks were talking about 'power mushrooms', which I'm giving to Baby, and now I see that K-9 amunity is also mushroom based. Any advantage to one over the other? Power mushrooms are not very expensive.
Here is a forum discussion we had about this a while back. It should answer your questions:

Nothing yet? Maybe someone on this forum might know a lawyer/attorney, or of someone who might know one, who surely would have access to resources to look into this Aloha vs. Birkdale suit?
I'm really curious about what might have come of this suit, and who's in the right and wrong here.

All I know is that when I looked into this after you posted, I learned the suit is quite a few years old and there was no information about the outcome. One can only assume it was settled out of court.
