It is with sorrow that I lost my best friend today. I had to put him to sleep because he was coughing a lot and would not eat.

I asked my oncologist for some alternatives that I have seen in this discussion room but he had no help for me.

This is my second experience with Portland Veterinary Specialist in Portland Maine. I have now lost two Rottweiler’s in their care.

I should have taken Stein to Tufts in Massachusetts

I would recommend that to any resident living in the New England area since new technologies and procedures are hard to find in the New England States.

Furthermore, I would not recommended Dr. Jeffery Philibert as he uses old procedures to try to eliminate the cause and if that doesn't work, he has no solutions.

He also stated that I should spend more time with Stein other then chat rooms.

Little does he know that my life with Stein has been day to day, eight hours a day and night time with his own mattress beside of me. I never ever let his side, riding and doing what we both love to do, or did do, riding, and enjoying the scenes like waterfalls and covered bridges and such.

Thank you all so much for you help.

Oh, Kim, I am so sorry to hear this.  Stein was a beautiful boy and you did all that you could for him.  I am sorry that your vet doesn't seem to recognize that but believe me when I say that we all understand.  I wish you all of the peace in the world at this sad time.

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

I am so very sorry that you weren't able to have more time together. Stein was a beautiful boy. I know how much it hurts when the professionals let you down. I'm sorry that your vet didn't provide you with the care or compassion you and Stein needed. That just compounds the pain.

It sounds like you made the most of the short extra time that you had together. Stein would have know just how much you loved him. Days spent just "being together" are very precious. I hope the memories will bring you some comfort.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that you lost Stein.

We all want to try everything we possibly can, but if his lung mets were bad, then you probably did everything that was realistically an option for him. Try to have some peace knowing you did what you could for your boy.

He is running pain free now with all the other warriors and princesses that went before him. He is your special angel now and will always be with you in your heart.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Kim, I'm so, so sorry to hear of Stein's passing. This is so heart breaking. I know you tried everything and from your other posts that you didn't get the support from your vet. This is so hard when this happens. Unfortunately I had a unpleasant experience with our girl with one of her specialists, and never went back to her. Luckily I had other to support us.

Please know that Stein knew he was totally loved and you did do everything you could to help him. He was very lucky boy.

Sending huge hugs to you

My heart just aches for you Kim, I am very, very sorry that Stein had to be set free. I know that you tried so hard to help him, and it breaks my heart knowing that you had to say goodbye so soon. It's so unfortunate that you didn't have a better connection with your doctor, I'm so sorry

Please know that Stein is always by your side, his spirit and the gifts he left with you will never leave your life.

We send our deepest condolences to you and your pack. The Tripawd Nation howls with sadness for your loss. crying

Kim, I'm so sorry to hear Stein has passed.  Please know that you did all you could for him.  Unfortunately, this disease doesn't play fair.  I know Stein fought a hard battle.  Please know that you and Stein are in our prayers.

I am sorry to hear that Stein did not make it.  I've followed your posts and you did all you could do and still continued to try to look for other options.  You were there to fight the battle with Stein and that is love.
