I am so sorry for your loss. I know how much it hurts. Finchy moped for about a month when chili dawg crossed the bridge. He still looks for him on days when we are gone longer than normal- I think he thinks we will bring him back with us or a new friend for him when we return. He has just recently returned to doing his "normal" routine- getting under the blankets with me when he is cold, taking treats from the kids, running with the neighbor dogs. It was a week after chili was gone before he greeted us with his wiggle dance & kisses. I know Sammy was greeted by many warriors and my Chili Dawg & Barb's Hope are showing Sammy all the good spots- bc goldens find each other you know.

Sending you hugs,

Jenna & Spirit Chili Dawg

Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.

I'm so sorry to read about Sammy. He was a beautiful boy, and cancer took him from you far too soon. You and your Sosa will be feeling his loss for a while, and it's up to you to comfort each other. Together you can get through this.

Our hearts are with you,

Micki and Rio

Sorry to hear about Sammy. He was a beautiful boy and I'm sure your family will miss him very much.

When we lost one of two dogs who had grown up together, our vet recommended that we try to break up our daily home routine as much as possible. He said it would make the absence less obvious and could help to avoid depression in the now-solo dog.

Thank you, everyone. It is overwhelming that so many of you took the time to send your sympathy and kind advice. Many of you have already experienced the grief that we feel now, and I wish that was not so. But the support offerred cannot be underestimated, and I sometimes wonder where Tripawd parents went before the site came online.

Jerry truly leads the way for the rest of us.

In my grief, I wasn't very clear about our beautiful Sosa. He does belong to my daughter but he doesn't live with us. She is grown and has her own house. However, since we got Sammy and Sosa they typically spent five out of seven days together. Amy liked to say she had two goldens and we said the same. The boys were especially close, seemingly able to read other's mind, and I can see from some of your posts that many of your babies enjoyed the same kind of relationship. I am intrigued and awed by the way dogs relate to each other.

Interestingly, Sosa has been mimicking some of Sammy's behaviors, such as lying in Sammy's favorite spots, carrying his favorite toys and raising his head to be burped (Sammy did that since he was a puppy. He would actually cross the room, raise his head and wait until we rubbed the burp up. Very funny.) This evening, Sosa laid by the our hearth and fell asleep for the first time since Sammy died. When he awoke, he was "talking" again and wanted to be cuddled. The light at the end of the tunnel …

For all of us, each day gets a little easier and the joy of sharing seven and a half years with Sammy far outwieghs the pain of our present loss. I am grateful for every moment we had.

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.

We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.

Awwww, I'm so sorry about Sammy.

Tell Sosa, he can come play with the monkeydogs (we are the ignored 4 legged ones)!

I took over my tripawd's sister's bed when we lost her.  I was never even allowed within 20 feet of her bed before!  But now, it's my spot!  And mommy tucks me every night!  But there are days I wish Comet was here so I could pick on her.  (She acted like she didn't like it, but I think she did!)

Give Sosa a big paw bump from me - Monkeybutt-bunny Vampire Pirate!  (guys don't hug or kiss, they paw bump!)

Sometimes it is so easy to get lost in all the grief and forget ALL THE JOY that came before. I'm glad you guys are already able to remember the good times and be happy for the love you shared with Sammy. That love is still there and Sammy will always be in your hearts.

That is funny about Sosa doing things Sammy did. We never had Abby at the same time as Bailey, but when she started doing things like Bailey (e.g. Abby was never food motivated and never a beggar, but she suddenly started begging one day) we would say that her angel sister was sending her instructions.

You also have a special angel now. Sounds like angel Sammy has been passing some messages to Sosa. 🙂

Hugs,

Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. What a beautiful golden and I am so so sorry for your loss.  My heart truly goes out to you as I know how difficult this is and will be for some time.  We lost our golden Mackenzie a year ago and had a younger golden Kobe who just looked up to his sister in so many ways.  She was all he knew so when we lost her, he was lost.  It pains me to even think about it now.  He wouldn't eat and seemed stressed, looking for Mackenzie, expecting her to walk through the door at any time.  It took a little bit of time for him to adjust and then he finally started getting back to his normal, playful self.  Now we have another golden puppy that keeps him totally occupied and busy so it's been good for him.

I just want you to know how lucky heaven is now and now Smiling Sammy is running free with all of our other tripawd heroes, showing him the way.  Someone once said to me that when our dogs go to heaven, they know they'll be seeing us very soon so they have no worries.  To them, seeing us very soon is a blink of an eye in their mind, but to us it feels like a lifetime  So I take comfort in knowing that I'll be seeing Mackenzie very soon - in a blink of an eye.

My deepest condolences.

Kami, Angel Mackenzie, Kobe and Scarlett

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!

Lisa,

Your wish about Sammy having someone there to love him the way you did made tears stream down my face.  I really understand that hope and I am sure that it is coming true.  There are tons of us that have gone before, dog lovers in heaven just like here.  They will keep him company well, until you are reunited again.  He won't be lonely, but will be very very happy to see you again one day.  I know when I go, that is going to be my job.  I can't imagine a heaven without dogs, and I will love and find joy in each and every one until their people come to be by their side.

Hugs and best of heart healing prayers and wishes for you,

Elizabeth

Lisa,

I am so sorry that it was Sammy's time to journey to Rainbow Bridge.  🙁

You both fought a courageous fight and it is important to always remember that the cancer did not win....it was because the balance between spirit and body tipped in favor of his spirit, and you were the chosen one to set him free.

Godspeed sweet Sammy.  Run free at the bridge with all of the heroes that have gone before you.  Send pennies when you can!

Hugs and chocolate kisses,
Ellen & Charley
