I just sent this to Mary/Cemil:

"I am beside myself right now.  I got up at 2am for his feeding and the bed was so empty.  And again at 6am.  Getting dressed and nobody to throw my PJ's at and watch him happily roll in them.  And Betty begged for her morning chew, but Raven's bone is just there, sitting on the shelf.  He would always hop to the cabinets and stare at it and then at me…just yesterday…  And I had meat thawing for his meals today, with nobody to give it to.  And when I went out to feed Billy, the dogs would both crowd to the door to go outside to eat their messy hardboiled egg treats, but Betty was alone.  I could still see the shells on the ground from yesterday's egg that he ate.  Even sitting at the computer, he's not at my feet as my foot warmer, I would reach down and just stroke his face with my fingertips as I would wait for my slow computer sometimes.  Just an empty floor."

The night before last, I ran across this video and was planning on posting it to this forum.  It's about a man with osteosarcoma, an amputee, and seems that lung mets took him suddenly months later.  Toby Keith wrote this song for him.  I thought it was beautiful and wanted to share with all of you, at the time, Raven was softly snoozing at my feet in what I didn't realize was the last night of his life on earth.  Now, I'm finally getting to sharing this video and it has a whole new meaning to me.

Thank you to everyone for all the thoughts and prayers and comforting words.  I have so much to say, but can't bring myself to just now.  More later.

A lot of us here know how your feel Dawn. Please understand we are there with you in spirit during this difficult time. And though I am so not a Toby Keith fan, I must admit, the song is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry you had trouble embedding the video, I fixed that for you. Technical difficulties are not exactly something you need to deal with right now. FYI: Object embed code, like that provided on the video page, must be pasted in using HTML mode – accessed via the small "HTML" button in your post editor.

Hang in there, Dawn.  Not being there where he should be was the hardest for me.  I don't know if you'd necessarily say the same, but for me, the decision to let Yoda go turned out to be so much easier than dealing with the result, the days and weeks after of not giving him his meds, which had become so regular, and of him not reminding me if he was overdue for a walk, etc.  No real good advice for this stage of things, just hang on, and lean on others.

Yoda&Mom united: 9/5/06 …….… Yoda&Leg separated: 6/5/09……… Yoda&Leg reunited: 10/14/09 ……… ……………….………….………….……. Yoda&Mom NEVER separated! …………………….….……....….…… Though Spirit Yoda currently free-lances as a rabbit hunting instructor for tripawds nationwide

yes, I hate it when the doorbell rings or I hear the postie walk up on the deck and no-one charges down the stairs or barks to say "let me out - I wanna say HELLOOOO". The charging and barking would have happened long before anyone walked up the steps in the past, but  now I have to rely on doorbells. Those absences are the hardest, even now. I hope Betty and your other animals keep you in some routine, although I know that can't fill Raven's paws. Take care.
