Ami
11.04.2002 - 14.02.2014

Our tripawed Ami passed away on friday the 14.2.14. It was over 5 years post amputation (osteo sarcoma) and she was very nearly 12 years. She had gone through so much having had gdv, pyo, pancreatitis and mammary tumors since the amputation. She was such a fighter but on thursday arthritis on her back seem to have got so bad that she could not support her weight and she was already on nearly maximum painrelief so there was not much we could do. This time we could see that there was just no fight left in her to get over this. We had to make a one the most difficult disisions of our lifes to let her go. The vet visited our home next day and she went very quickly and peacefully laying in her bed and eating chicken. She has been so special dog for us and we miss her so much. Hopefully she has given some hope for the others that big dogs can do well on three legs and get over osteo sarcoma.

I absolutely LOVE that last picture.. makes me want to place my hands on each side of her face and plant the biggest kiss right between her brows!!!!

Ami... you were definitely an inspiration.. and a wonderful,, WONDERFUL example for anyone who has large dogs facing amputation.. 5 YEARS!!!!!  and you were almost 12 YEARS OLD!!!!  I can tell you that just thinking of those two numbers are making me smile through the tears on my cheeks as I feel your pain with Ami's passing.

How blessed Ami was to be at home.. in her own bed.. surrounded by those that she loved with all her heart and eating chicken!!!  and how blessed you were to have those moments together.. right to the very end...   sometimes we forget about this.... osf how lucky we are to not make that walk into the vets office... if you know what I mean.

5 years and 12 years old.. my goodness!!!!

our hearts break with you... we know how you feel.. we know how much your heart aches.  And those members here whose doggers and kitts are still kicking cancer's ass can only imagine.  It's hard to let go of that leash one more time.. but my gosh.. I bet you there is a party going on at the Bridge.. how could there not be.  The bridge just became more beautiful with her arrival...

and you do know that Ami will ALWAYS be with you.. she is in your heart.  When you are ready.. you will open your heart and you will feel her there... you will feel her strength... and her love.

Christine..... with Franklin in her heart♥

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012.  Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013.  Always in my heart, and always a guardian angel of my pack...   You can follow his Tripawd Adventures, before and after, in my blog, Frank'n'Farter!

I'm so very sorry to read this. When you joined us so long ago, our Jerry had just earned his wings and the Tripawds community was so small. Wow. We are so honored that you've been a part of our world for so many years though the good and ruff times. Thank you so very, very much for sharing Ami's life with us.

My heart goes out to you, please accept our condolences. I know that no matter how long a beloved companion is with us, it's never easy to reach this point in the journey. How we are so in awe of her resiliency and long, amazing cancer journey. She WON, she BEAT CANCER! And at 12 years old, she is the definition of a miracle dog.

Ami, your spirit, your story, your amazing, epic fight against cancer will always bring hope to every single person who comes here for support. We reach out our arms to you and your family and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to join you in your inspawrational fight.

Bless you for giving Ami the wonderful life she lived. May she run free of pain and rest in peace at the Rainbow Bridge.

And thank you for checking in. While we are sorry to hear the news, we are always pleased to hear such triumphant tales of Tripawd Heroes.

Peace.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Words can't explain anyone's feelings for the loss of a fur baby.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  I know how hard it is, I lost my Domino in October and I just had Bailey, a Great Dane also diagnosed with bone cancer and underwent front leg amp. last Friday the 7th.  She's a stressful dog out of her environment and she didn't do so well.  First two days at home were great, but then she's struggling right now.  She hates the car so I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.  Bailey is 7.  What a beautiful girl Ami is and 12 years old... WOW what a amazing life she had.  I know you will miss her forever but remember that she knew how much she was loved and cared for unconditionally. Once again I'm truly sorry for your loss but your story gives me hope.  HUGS to you from all the tri-paws.

So very sorry for the loss of your Ami. What a beautiful dog. I cannot tell you how much of an inspiration she is to us. We have lost several dogs lately and reading about a dog who has survived OSA for 5 years gives everyone hope. My own dog only made it 4 months so she wasn't one of the lucky ones but dogs like Ami show us that amputation is worth it and every dog and cat is different. She sounded like she had a great life.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. We're never ready for the passing of a beloved pet, but try to take comfort in knowing that Ami lived an amazingly long life in spite of her illnesses. She obviously had amazing care and a life filled with love. She was a beautiful girl and an inspiration to everyone.

With love,
Carol
