Well, I joined on February 21st and introduced you all to my newly adopted tripawd pup, named Roxy, and although I am thrilled that I found all of you lovely people, I have to admit that I am not really feeling worthy of being apart of the group these past few days!  I have lost many (too many) family and friends to cancer but never a pet, so I can only imagine what those who have lost their furkids recently are going through.

Just yesterday I learned in more detail what Roxy's injuries were when she came into the vet clinic at 12 weeks of age...she had a spiral fracture the length of her tibia but no external injuries...which of course most likely means the break was caused by the hand of a human crying  Although this was a tragic start to her life I personally did not have to go through watching her suffer or the transition of learning to walk all over again.  But most of you folks have had to make the tough decisions, watch as your beloved pets suffer, and in some cases make the dreaded decision to end their lives.

I have learned so much in the short time that I have been here, and can honestly say that I can see my girl living a long and happy life, but at the same time it makes me sad for those of you that have had pets that have lost the battle months/years before their time.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during these difficult times.  It makes me wish I lived closer to some of you so that we could have a tripawd party.

Thanks so much everyone...I look forward to getting to know you all, meeting all the newcomers, and sharing with you the adventures of Roxy and Charlee smile

As an official member of the MOD PAWD SQUAD I may have to edit your post !!!  How dare you say you are not worthy!

Look at my post numbers.  Just look.  3784 posts.  (not to mention the almost 700 from the Monkeybutt Bunny Vampire Pirate!)

My postings may not be of sound advice and probably half were made in gest and fun - but if I can post that many posts and not be kicked off - then you too are worthy!

I DIDN'T even have a real tripawd!  I had a 3 1/2 legged dog!  Her 4th leg was deformed.  My Comet didn't go through an amputation because I backed out because she got pneumonia and was very sick for a long time.  I decided she didn't need one.  And yes, Comet did have cancer - but I went through her cancer experience for 1 hour.  (no symptoms - she just collapsed and was bleeding out)

If anyone is not worthy - I'm not!

So here's the DEAL on Tripawds:

a)  You don't have to have gone through an amputation to be accepted!

b)  You don't have to have cancer to be accepted!  This isn't a website for cancer - it just happens that most people stick around because of cancer

c) We want happy, healthy tripawds to be here!

d) You'll offer tons of advice in time!

e) It's the job of healthy tripawds to encourage and cheer on the cancer tripawds!  (or that's how I see it)

So, please don't feel bad.  ANd never say you are not worthy of being here!  Roxy and you SHOULD BE HERE!

She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

I think first and foremost we are dog people. Then we are people with tripawds (or Spirit Tri-Pugs!), then some of us are people with tripawds who have cancer. Having a community of people who understand the decisions we are faced with, including adopting a tripawd, is priceless, and that takes us back to being dog people.

Yes, it is hard to be here sometimes. But in my mind it is the strength of this entire community coming together to support each other that gets us through the hard times. Sometimes it is condolences, sometimes there is humor, there are ampversaries to celebrate, there are pictures and videos of ridiculously cute tripawd puppies to enjoy. All of us contribute to making this the place to be!

I'm glad you are here, and I look forward to the ongoing adventures of Roxy and Charlee.

Like Cometdog said, you don't have to have a pup with cancer to be part of the gang. You don't have to even have a tripawd.

We are dog lovers first and foremost and, especially, tripawd lovers. We love when new tripawds join who don't have to deal with the cancer crap, so please don't feel badly (or unworthy!) that your dog doesn't have cancer.

We're glad you're here and we can't wait to see pics and hear more about Roxy & Charlee!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Teena-

Don't feel guilty because your pup will live a normal life span.  I felt the same way at first.  When I first found Tripawds I thought Daisy had bone cancer.  All evidence pointed that way and I had her leg amputated.  The pathology report came back and turned out it wasn't cancer after all just really bad arthritis.  I wanted to shout it from the rooftops but at the same time felt really sad because so many on here don't have that kind of outcome.  I called it survivor guilt.

Everyone here was very supportive of Daisy's good news and celebrated with us.  So you too are worthy to be here.

Oh my gosh, everyone else said it best. We are for ALL Tripawds, no matter what the reason and above all else, we are dog people who understand the depth of the love that we share for these critters.

Not everyone here has lost a leg to cancer, many of us are here because of accidents, birth defects, you name it! So please, please share your story and be a part of this community, we are looking forward to hearing more about your adventures.

Hey wait a minute! I'm the OFFICIAL Tripawds SPOKESDAWG and I'm a Tripawd because of some idiot who kept me tied up in a yard. I don't have cancer either, so come on, be a part of our pack!

Dear Miss Teena,

You are special, you belong here! I know exactly how you feel!

My Wyatt doesn't have cancer and has just short, 3/4's of his leg.

He lost his paw due to abuse too. He was even very fearful of every person we came upon.

He is a Tripawd in my eyes. He hops on three legs while holding up the stubbie. rasberry

Hopefully he will live out a long life with lots of love and antics to share with others.

There have been days I admit, I dreaded logging in - seeing another dog

lost to cancer just about does me in and I cry for the loss of someone's furbaby.

Then I get mad, and do something about it. I'm a fighter against cancer now!

I think us non-cancer dogs were directed here to give others

who might be thinking about adopting a Tripawd

some help in making those decisions when they see there really is

nothing to worry about. Hardly anything is different, just the appearance.

I kind of think of me and Wyatt (and my other two boys) as the cheer squad for Tripawds kiss

Teena, you won't find a more true hearted and welcoming community than this one. It's the beauty of the virtual border less world we can connect with so many others. I haven't been on the site often since our Catie died in June and life has also gotten insanely busy but Tripawds and the people and their fur babies remain close to my heart.

And I'm from Alberta too, by the way. 🙂

I'm here because I had no idea what I'd be getting into. big-grin  I was just googled 3 legged dog and found everything I needed to know before adopting a Tripawd.  Trapper doesn't care if your experiences come from illness, injury, or cruelty.   He's just happy I found you guys so I could tell his rescue group that I knew where to find answers.  We're glad EVERYONE'S here!!!
