Hi everyone!
I rescued a pup last Friday who was going to be put down after being hit by a car and having a compound fracture in the left elbow joint. The doctor I work with believed amputation would be a good fit for him but his previous owners didn't believe so, so I asked them to sign him over to me so I could take care of him. His surgery was yesterday and besides him being the biggest drama king they've ever seen, it went very well.
The doctor wants him to keep a shirt on for two weeks to cover the incision but I'm having trouble with getting something to fit him. He's only 25 pounds and doesn't fit into any of the other dogs shirts or any t-shirts we have laying around the house. Anyone have ideas on what I could use for him without having to go spend 30 bucks at a pet store for a dog shirt that fits him?

You might try pulling a tee shirt around his torso and use a rubber band or put a knot in it, so the knot is on his back. Does that make sense? The important thing is that it covers his incision and that there is no baggieness that he could trip on.

This made me giggle...my pug Maggie was a huge drama queen! I always knew when she was unhappy.
My little pug mix Elly came to me in a similar way- she was hit by a car at 7 months old and her original owners surrendered her to a rescue group. Elly lost her right back leg.

thank you for adopting him. It's great to know there are people out there. The drama king comment made me giggle too. I also have one of those. Her nickname on occasion is "grumpy guts". I did what Karen recommended and had a knot in a tee-shirt to keep it tight. It worked. Another thing you could try, if you have can find it, is to look for teddy bear/doll clothes. I am also a big believe in just making things if you can't find something. you might be able to take an old tee-shirt, slice away extra fabric and rubber band it in a couple places to keep it on.
