Kayla has been doing really well but lately (last few days) we have had a lot of spills and she seems to be having problems with the remaining front leg, there is a amazing amount of effort going into each step where usually she just hops round quite happily. she has been growing alot and I am wondering if it is because of the growth that she is having problems or is something else going on and what can I do to help her. It is super hot here at the moment aswell and the heat is getting to her quite a bit too.

maybe a little massage on the remaining front leg and neck area might help.  have you tried an ice pack on her shoulder??  we are always talking up the great results we saw from acupuncture, if you have that available in your area.  growing puppies always seem to grow 'different parts at different speeds', maybe that's all it is.  never hurts to have the vet give kayla a check if it persists.  good luck!!

Our girl doesn't like the heat either. Hopefully it is just the heat and some growing pains.

Hope the massage and ice help.

All the best to you and Kayla in 2012,

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

I know from watching Sammy's growth spurts that he had lots of weeks where he was very clumsy.  I think just like anyone would need to adjust and get help, Kayla could probably use massaging and time to learn her growing body.  I agree with everyone.  Do you have hardwood flooring?  Does she fall on the slick surfaces of your home or just all over?

Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in the right front leg 8/23/10,

leg fractured 8/27/10,

leg amputated 8/30/10

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us.  Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.

all our slippery floors have been covered up she is just falling anywhere, she reminds me of a gangly teenager 🙂

She quite often gets all wound up playing with our other dog and seems to forget about her leg and overdo it same playing with the kids. but how do you slow a mad puppy down?

Maybe she sprained a toe? Abby sprained her toe on her remaining front leg earlier this summer and it almost made her completely lame. Of course, I thought it was the cancer spreading to her lone front leg, but after a visit to the vet, he checked everything out and she'd sprained a toe.

Maybe it's time for a vet visit? I hope it's nothing too serious! Will be sending pawsitive thoughts to your little cutie!

Don't these things always seem to pop up/get worse on the long weekend/holidays??

Hope the vet thinks it's nothing major! Keep us posted,

good luck with vet.  While doing massage, also check out the stretches on the posts on this site – they are from a rehab clinic in CA.  I started to do them with Ajax until I realized he was already doing them himself – Yogi Lab. But they might be a nice complement to a massage for a growing pup.   Admin can find the posts if you can't.

Kayla and family, my apologies for not saying hello earlier, I don't know how I missed your first posting. We hope everything goes well at the vet. Sounds like maybe she could have something like a foxtail in there. Keep us posted!
