Hi all,
I went to collect the newest edition to the family today, Eric.
He's a 9wo Mastiff X Ridgeback.
Truth is, I was hesitant. I have never had to care for a tripawd before, is he going to be a lifetime vet bill, is he going to take all of my time, I racked my brain over and over, changing my mind several times before deciding. If I don't have him, nobody is going to give him a chance.
I love him. He's hilarious. He's a trier. His front leg deformity is not holding him back.
His good leg looks as though it's developing a stirdy callus in the ankle that looks like arthritis so I'll keep an eye on that. Any advice on general care? Joint supplements? How much exercise? The questions are endless!

So, you do mean he's a nine week old ("wo") or nine year old dog? I'm guessing you meant he's nine years old since you say he may have arthritis?
No matter his age, the first thing to do is to have him evaluated by your vet if you haven't already. And then, get an appointment with a canine rehabilitation therapist. These experts can look him over and tell you where his strengths and weaknesses are, and how to help him live a long, healthy life on three legs. They can also let you know which supplements are and are not a good idea. Plus, the Tripawds Foundation may pay for your first rehab visit ! That's how much of an impact these experts can have on a Tripawd's life so please take advantage of it.
