They DO! I told them to get one of those smart phone things because my fans were waiting, but they wouldn't listen to me.
I'm HOME! Wooo hooo!
Now if you'll excuse me I have a date with some pink elephants.

Daddy Lovins? That'll be the day, though the tramadol does have him loopy enough to be following me around and sitting at my feet all the time – between laps of darting about the house. We'll see how he acts once the dope wears off.
Aside from the junkie behavior, he is doing well, no longer leaking, and getting lots of rest. We'll get the drain removed Monday, and stitches taken out in about a week.

I have not been on-line much lately; sorry we missed Wyatt's issues. Glad that he is home and it is not the big "C". Thank goodness for CSU and their staff and alumni!
Chuck & Rusty
Rusty is a Labradoodle who was diagnosed with level 3 Fibrosarcoma on January 16th, 2010 and had his left hind leg amputated on January 25th, 2010 five days before his 18 month birthday. Please see Rusty's blog @rusty.tripawds.com. He is putting up one heck of a fight against this terrible disease.
Well once again I'm proving to my pawrents that I'm NOTHING like Spirit Jerry!
Tramadol didn't do a thing to Jerry. But when I take it, I go NUTS!
I'm whining, panting and pacing. So my Mom and Dad took me off the dope, thinking that's what was making me crazy.
But I'm still whining and panting, and going batty from this tube sticking out of my leg!
Wouldn't you?
I didn't want to eat, so Dad and Mom fed me by hand. I ate to make them happy.
I can't wait to feel better.

Is he on an NSAID like Deramaxx? That might help. You can also ask your vet about giving him Benadryl just for its sedating effects. He would probably need 50 mg 2-3 times daily. It is very safe and it might help keep him calm.
Poor guy! My dogs would have chewed that tube out even with an E Collar so he is probably frustrated and confused.

What the hell? I don't log in for a few days and this is what happens? Very glad to hear Wyatt Ray is OK. "Foriegn matter" doesn't seem like much fun, but it's also not life-threatening now that it's gone. The hip dysplasia sucks, but that's a bridge you can cross when you come to it. For now, I'm just glad to hear Wyatt and his parents are OK. Bernie bin Laden (who gave us heart failure again this weekend by doing a drive-by on my best friend and yanking a chicken wing out of his hand, then promptly chewing it up and swallowing it bones and all), is looking forward to a return engaement with one of his favorite sparring partners.
Hello Brave-heart, a.k.a. Wyatt
Yes indeed it WOULD be scary to find such a lump at the amputation site - or anywhere on a tripawd or quadraped. So relieved that the lump did not turn out to be "C". I can't imagine how your parents felt - I did not see the posts or the gory picture until they had the good news.
The tubes and hand grenade have gotta be uncomfortable. You must be very brave to simply whine and pant. I think most dogs would go ballistic and rip it out. I guess you convinced the vets of your ability to care for him - I don't think they'd let too many dogs into their parents' paws with all those wires hanging out.
Tell your parents to keep us posted - I hope things heal quickly and that you lose the paraphernalia soon!!
Susan
Wyatt is napping, finally.
We realized that despite his crazy behavior since surgery, he wasn't whining or panting like he was today. That's when he was on 2 tramadols. To try to pinpoint his erratic behavior, we put him back on the dope, but just 1 pill this time, and now he's napping. Whew. pain management sucks!
Tazzie, we gave Wyatt Benadryl once and it did nothing for that kid, he was still nuts with it, I think it even made him worse. Thank you for the suggestion though! It makes us feel good knowing that he's doing pretty good with the drain, in comparison to other dogs. Thanks for the reassurance.
Bernie, Wyatt can't WAIT to tell you all about his battle scars. Now, about that chicken wing, was it raw or cooked? If it was cooked then you are even nuttier than Wyatt! At least dem wings are soft bones, hope you've pooped it out by now.
Susan, thanks for checking in and the kind words, we'll be sure to relay them to Wild Boy when he wakes up.

Of course it was cooked! Why would the little monster steal something harmless? That's hardly his style. My friend and I were out in the back yard, drinking White Russians and eating a bucket of Albertson's chicken wings (because we're classy that way), when Bernie bin Laden noticed that Tom's attention was focused elsewhere and his hand that was holding the chicken wing (the drumette piece) was at a convenient angle. Like any terrorist, he never misses an opportunity for a sneak attack, so he charged Tom from behind, did a flying leap, and yanked the wing out of his hand in midair. I saw it out of the corner of my eye, realized what had just happened, and yelled to Tom to grab Bernie because it could kill him if he ate the wing and the bone splintered in his stomach (Tom's not a dog owner, and initially didn't realize the danger).
We both lunged at the hairy little wingjacker, who of course thought this was some awesome new game where two people chased him at once. He started charging around the yard, pausing occasionally to make sure we could almost – but not quite – catch up to him. He got the orange tree in between us, but realized he was trapped on either side, so he took a few big loud chomps on the piece, and swallowed it bone and all. Then he ran off again, looking pleased with himself while I had heart failure.
I called our vet (who we have on speed dial thanks to the little bastard), and asked what to do. He said there was no need to bring Bernie in, since attempting to make him barf the bone back up could be just as dangerous because of the potential for throat splinters. Instead, he advised the SAME DAMN THING BERNIE GOT WHEN HE ATE MY #%*@ CAMERA – feed him an entire can of dog food every three hours, and play with him nonstop in order to get the digestive juices flowing and hopefully get him to pass the bone naturally! So Bernie got to tear around the backyard all afternoon, taking only occasional breaks to inhale more food or bite Linda, and then spend the evening on his back in our living room grunting, groaning, and farting all over my wife and I. Then he got rewarded even more by going to doggie day care to play with all his friends the next day since Di and I were both working, where he still got a full can of food every three hours until the 24-hour observation period was over and he was out of danger. Diane and I are convinced that he'll be the dog of ours who lives the longest and takes the most years off our lives in the process.
Nauseating little ingrate. I hope a bone splinter poked him in the bunghole on its way out.
Oh my gosh! Poor Wyatt baby! It really hurts, doesn't it??!!! For you not to eat, that says a lot! Poor baby boy.
Oh Maxidad, that's another belly laughing funny story!!!!!!!
