Sheesh.  Just when I was commenting to myself how improved Daisy's mobility has been of late she started favoring her right rear leg after an hour at the dog park Saturday morning.  By that same evening she was refusing to put weight on it and trying to walk on two legs.  We got into the vet last night at 5:00 to be evaluated.  Dr. Terry believes she has a strain but is also concerned with her cruciate ligament in that knee.  It is not ruptured but possibly stretched out??  She is to have limited activity for at least 2 weeks and we started cold laser therapy.  I'm also not supposed to let her rise from laying down on her own but the goofball hops up before I can get to her (somehow she always knows what I'm plotting)!  She's still on her daily Meloxicam and Dasuquin MSM supplement.  Has anyone else dealt with something like this and what treatments did you do?

Keeping fingers crossed that this will help her as I don't know what I'd do if it ruptures.

Hey Marla, I'm so sorry to hear this! I'm sure she'll be fine.

Well if it's any comfort, the same thing happened to us when we played too enthusiastically with a frisbee. The vet said the same thing: strained or possible ACL tear.

What fixed it was lots of strict rest and acupuncture.

I hope the cold laser helps. If not you might want to consider acupuncture, it's worked for so many pups but it often does take at least 6 sessions to see a real difference.

It took about 2 weeks but after that my leg was fine. Only we stopped playing frisbee :(

Hope she feels better soon.

Hey did you see the Tripawds News blog post about our visit?

Thanks.  Knowing someone else had that happen and had a good outcome makes me feel better.  I am such a worry wart and I automatically start obsessing about the worst case scenario.  I am hoping the cold laser works to speed recovery.

And yes we saw the blog post about your trip thru Missouri.  Love the pic with Daisy giving Wyatt the "eye".  Looks like she was making sure he wasn't up to something.

I'm a worry wart too, so I know how that is! Hopefully with some rest and extra TLC she'll be back to her ol' self soon!

sending pawsitive thoughts!

Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Sorry to read about Daisy's rear leg issue...here's to hoping the cold laser does wonders!  I know one of my holistic vets I use for cold laser(and acupuncture/chiro) has told me of patient's he's had for ACL injuries and he's done cold laser on them and has had great results by the laser!

I don't think there is one of us who have taken the journey that were worry warts. Problem is once it is with you, it never goes away.  Trouble has been gone 18 months, and now I focus the worry on Duke & Emmi, both who are as healthy as can be :)

Sending good thoughts for a speedy recovery.
