Good morning.  We are new to this so not sure this is the right forum.  Our 3-1/2 month old pup was brutally attacked by loose neighbor dogs requiring amputation of his right rear leg.

He weighs 15 pounds.  Where should we begin to learn how to best help him adjust?

Thank you.

Hi Rob, we are so sorry about your pup! Poor little guy. How long ago did it happen? Did he have any other injuries? What breed-type is he?

You've come to the best place to get answers. Have you seen Jerry's Required Reading List yet? That's our favorite place to refer members to when they join us, it contains all of our best articles to date. Our e-book Loving Life On Three Legs is also a compilation of tips for life on three, fitness, etc.

Because your dog is so young, he may have extra challenges with balance and mobility. That's because young dogs haven't developed their motor skills yet, so when they lose a leg it makes those things a bit more difficult at first. We highly encourage having him evaluated by a canine rehabilitation therapist so that you can learn about the best ways to keep him injury-free, get strong and stay that way for life. Our Tripawds Foundation can even pay for your first rehab visit so please do take advantage of the program OK?
