I am hoping I post this in the right section. I am just wanting to kick around some medical issue for anyone that may have similar issues.
My Boy Bonzai has started a strange leg issue.. You know when you find that sweet spot on a dogs's belly and it makes their leg just go uncontrollably kicking and you love it and they love it and everyone is happy? Well for the last month Bonz Bonz just kicks his leg with no belly scratch from me.. His leg goes uncontrollably like that... It will go for 15 seconds then stop.. Then 20 seconds later it will go again.. These tend to come in batches that last 10 minutes to an hour. I do not know if it happens during the day.. But it does happen usually at bedtime and then normally it kicks up during the night around 4 or 5am for an hour or so. He does not seem to be controlling his leg and he grumbles and does not seem to like it. I feel he is in discomfort and I know I am due to lack of sleep.
I mentioned it to the Dr during his annual last month ( still cancer free now 1 year post surgery.) And he said that it is probably a hot spot and to try benadryl. Bonz really did not like the benadryl as it made him restless instead of sleepy. Not sure why.
He is 13... Is this some sort of just issue older dogs get? Like doggie parkinson or something?
Bonzai!! So good to hear from you! And congratulations on an excellent report!!! Such an inspiration for everyone, vut especially seniors!!
Our beloved "Vet" will respond when she sees this, but for now I just wanted to acknowledge how well you are doing and how great it is ro hear from you!
Just throwing this out there in the meantime, since it happens at night is it possible he's having leg cramps, foot cramps, or maybe that "tingling sensation" when your leg/foot "falls asleep"? Anything seem to curtail it when it happens...massage....having him try to stand, etc? Is it always the same leg?
Anyway, will be interested ro see what Doc says.
Smooch the mug for me! And hugs to you!
