Oh dear that Naughty Franklin sure likes a good time. Maybe he was setting Merry Myrtle up with a date in the woods?
All joking aside I know this is not easy for you Sally. I hope she will learn to lounge for the healing to begin. Perhaps you'll need to be Frankie's roughhouse partner?

I'm late to the discussion too, been out of town and not able to get onto the forums very well....but OMG you mischievous little pups. I am so glad they came home, and hopefully Myrtle did come back with, um, any little buns in the oven .

Sally,
I wonder if something like this would help Merry Myrtle

THANKS EVERYONE!!!
Okay, it's been twelve days. The swelling is gone down a fair amount. However, the part at the joint (?) is still very noticeably swollen. Her Rimadyl was only for eight days.
I'm trying to get her in tomorrow to another vet at the same office. I happen to know the first vet is off tomorrow. If I don't feel satisfied with their assessment, I'll have to find an orthopedic specialist I guess?
She's only 15 1/2 months old for pete's sake! But I sure don t like the roundness of it! I don't see how a torn or stretched ligamentt can look like this.
And yes Mochelle, that looks like a good idea! Thank you!!!
Her limp is very, very slight nlw, but still there snd on occasion she still will hold it up for a few seconds.
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Michelle, I'm gon a see what Dr. Pam thinks about that wrap. It really does look like it could help.
This sounds crazy, but, even if I can find an orthopedic specialist, I hate having her xrayed again! I know, I know, "they" say xrays are harmless. But "they" say a lot of things are harmless that are not the case.
Wasn't able to get her in this morning (sa.e place, different vet...but at least they already have an xray). Guess Ill go to regular vet Monday.
LOVE! AND HUGE THANKS!!!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Okay...just got off the phone with "fill in" vet. She wasn't ablt to pull of xrays, but she said he wrote down......SWOLLEN TENDON. STRETCHED TENDON..and explained the differences between tendon and ligament. And of course, I can t remember what she said about that. He noted something like, lthough it wasn't moved easily and it moved very little, he could move tendon.
She said he may prescribe more Rimadyl since I said there was still "swelling" at the hock area. She thought because there was improvement that it probavly isn't torn (I think she said torn).
Sigh.......so guess it's not too bad???

Grrr....looked up tendon and ligament o. DR. Google and they are same!...and not good!
The "bulge" feels more on the hard side, not fluidity or squishy. I wouldn't think a tendon/ligament would swell up hard and round..it feels more like round bone.
Nah....I'm not getting myself worked up or obsessing or anything like that! Right!!

Sally!!!!!! No more Dr. Google!!!! He scares people!! BREATHE! Is she walking normally? I know when people do this, it is like 6 weeks or more till they are back to normal. It is just so hard not to worry, I know. We lost our innocence in this crazy journey. I worry about stuff I did not used to know even existed. More wine, more chocolate. Maybe her vet can take another look on Monday. Maybe a second xray to compare. Thinking of you, Lori, Ty & Gang
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Sorry, I will learn to read everything before I post. I looked back and saw you were hoping NOT to have a 2 nd xray and that you would see reg. vet on Monday, 2 of my suggestions. Duh!! Well the rest of the advice was pretty good. LOL Lori, Ty & Gang

Sally: was wondering how Merry Myrtle was doing. Yes, tendons and ligaments take time to heal - in humans many weeks.
One more natural option instead of more Rimadyl is ARNICA - my old vet used to prescribe it from the homeopathic human pharmacy. It helps healing, swelling, etc.

Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet. Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues. Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle. October 17: started having seizures. Taking fenobarbital for seizures. April 18: started prednisone.
LORI!!! Your advice is ALWAYS good!!! You really said it well..."We lost our innocence in this crazy journey". And thanks for the reminder that these thi gs don't heal overnight!
DANIELA!!! Thanks for the great link AND the reassurance about it takes time to heal. They BOTH .make sense! Heck, I might take few hits of ARNICA myself for my joint aches! A d Dr. Oz endorses it...I like that!
Okay...no more Dr. Google...and I did just eat some Hershey's dark chocolate. I like ti kind of get it warm a d then eat it. YUM!!
Love you guys!!!

I've got no advice but wanted to let you know that Jasper and I are thinking about you two. I think these things do take a while to heal on their own... my friend's little itty bitty dog did this to her leg back in October and appears totally fine now. And this little dog was about 13. Just healed with rest and limited activity which I know is hard for a puppy!
But yes, stay OFF doctor Google.... will make you crazy!!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Dr. Google, you're fired!
I like arnica, it works so well on my own muscle aches that it's worth a try. Just make sure she doesn't lick it, not sure about how safe it is topically for dogs.
Instead of more x-rays, if it were Wyatt Ray in this situation, I would at this point go to a specialist if I wasn't satisfied with the vet's answers. The specialist will probably order more x-rays but at least they would be at that clinic with their equipment, which oftentimes is better than a general vet's office.
Follow your gut feeling and you'll feel more confident whatever you decide.

Regarding ARNICA, my suggestion would be to take the homeopathic pills instead of putting it topically. It will help heal from inside. That's what my former vet, who was into veterinary homeopathy, gave my cocker spaniel when she had surgery, instead of anti-inflammatories. It worked quite well.
