Nitro is a 10 yr old Dobe, 17 months post amp of right front leg due to OSA; had 6 doses of Carboplatin, 7 months of metronomic therapy consisting of Cytoxan/Piroxicam until cystitis developed. Then started liquid Leukeran/Piroxicam until present. About 3-4 weeks into latest metronomics , wetting accidents started happening at night, sporadically. Currently is happening every night, and tonight happened during evening hours (both of us work second shift). Have had discussion with my vet about starting Proin; and was told he'd have to stop NSAID'S in order to do this. Nitro also sees a second vet that specializes in homeopathic/Eastern practices - I will ask about a homeopathic alternative that would allow his continuing use of NSAID's. In the meantime, I'm looking for advice on how to proceed. A UTI has been ruled out. Could this be at all related to any of his chemo, or might this just be age catching up to him? Is this the time to call a halt to his metronomic's? Any advice or wisdom will be appreciated. Thank you.

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Sorry you're dealing with this. Hmmm......otherwise doing great, right? Seems too much of a coincidence to NOT be related to the latest metronomics . Could you stop it for a xouple of weeks and see if the incontinence stops?

I jave no cirst ha d knowledge. Just thought Id throw the above out there until others more knowledgeable than I chime in.

Give that sweet boy a smooxh for me!

Hugs to you.

I doubt that the chemo has anything to do with this.  My Tazzie developed urinary incontinence and she did well with estrogen replacement and that is always my preference to Proin.  There is a brand called Incurin that is a flavored tablet or you can have DES compounded.  The usual dose is 1 to 2 mg daily until the leakage resolves then use the lowest effective dose to prevent recurrence.  You can try holistic meds but those are not always effective.

I apologize, I did not realize that your dog is a male until I re-read your post!  Obviously estrogen will not work so Proin is probably your only option although I do not think you would have to stop the NSAID.  You could consider acupuncture.
