Can you still Breed with your dog.  We have a rottie bitch who had her front leg off.  Just wondering if we will still be able to breed from her?

Hopefully Dr. Wiltzius (tazziedog) will address any veterinary concerns. I'm sure she'll ask about the overall health of your dog. Some larger breeds have more difficulty, where the added weight of pregnancy may be a definite concern. We'll also need to know the reason for amputation. Any ethical breeder would certainly not continue a line predisposed to cancer.

Hi Zara, thanks for joining us here, it's good to see you!

As I mentioned, I don't know of anyone who has bred their Tripawd but you never know! Perhaps our favorite vet here, Dr. Wiltzius, can provide some insight.

I do not think that this is a good idea, especially in a large breed dog. The added weight of all of the pups would probably cause increased stress on the remaining legs.  Was the leg amputated due to cancer?  If it was due to OSA this is most likely a genetic thing in Rotties so you wouldn't want to continue the line.
