Ouzo managed to break one of his front toes pretty bad last night during the midnight pee break. Not sure what happened. Knowing how goofy my gang is, he probably ran out full speed and slid off the deck.
He can't put any weight on the paw at all, which means he's immobile. I scheduled an appointment with our vet for later today to take care of the nail, etc. My concern is that he'll be immobile for at least a few more days after that. How in the world is he supposed to eliminate?
We carried him outside earlier, and he just laid down or rolled over for a belly rub (always a joker!).
Has anyone been in this situation? He's never peed in the house or on pads, which we use for our 17 year old blind & deaf Pomeranian.

Ouzo is about nine, 70lb, large breed. Front left leg amputee.
Would a Belly Band work on a housebroken dog?
Any advice would be so appreciated, as I am at a loss with this conundrum.
Thanks so much for reading.

Is the bone of the toe broken or just the nail?  A broken toe would need a splint and it would be more difficult for him to walk initially although dogs do adapt well.  A broken nail would just involve a bandage and the pain meds should allow him to walk quickly once the broken nail is removed.

Dogs will usually urinate when they have to so a belly band or pad could work fine.  He would probably prefer to be help outside and supported to eliminate on his own if possible.
