My foster dog Lily has her rear leg amputated Monday 4-17. We picked her up that evening and her sutures look puffy.

There has been no drainage or change in appearance.

I couldn’t figure out how to attach pics on my phone so uploaded it here.

Is this normal?

Hi and welcome! And THANK YOU for being a foster parent! We so appreciate all that you are doing to help Lily find a home. You are a hero!

You uploaded the photos perfectly. To me that incision looks normal. You can try an ice pack to bring down the swelling (use a towel inbetween her skin and the pack, and just ice for about 5 minutes, a few times a day).

I'll let Dr. Pam give you her thoughts when she can, but for now I wouldn't panic.

When do you think Lily will be available for adoption? And where? Be sure to list her in the Tripawds Rescue Forum and we'll help get the word out.

Thank you for replying so fast! She is my first foster with a surgery beyond a spay and I worry. I will try icing it today.

I will be sure to list her on the Rescue Forum when she is ready for adoption. She has to be spayed after she heals from this. She is a 7 month old terrier mix in Austin, Texas that was saved from euthanization from a shelter in south Texas. Her rescue is Voice for Animals.sp_hearticon2

This looks pretty typical post-op and yes icing can help.
