Ok, so there are a couple people in my lab facility that have never had animals.  Sometimes I tell a story about Chloe or tell them about my different training techniques with separation anxiety, growliness when trying to protect me from cats… and it seems that if you are not a dog lover, you really have no idea what's going on in our heads as owners.

For example: I talk to my dog ALL the time, both when people are present and when they are absent. One of my lab mates asked me (after I told them this), "Why do you talk to your dog?" I was kind of stumped because I have grown up with animals and I just do it. I KNOW she can't understand more than half of what I say, but I mean they have ears and they can understand voice inflections… I have just summed it up as a dog lover thing.  Anyone I have asked that does own a dog and loves them to death seems to understand, no questions asked.

So I have complied a few sayings just for the occasion since I didn't realize my behavior might be considered abnormal to the rest of the world:

You know you are a dog lover when….

1. you talk to your dog and you have no idea why you do it.

2. you have your camera out and ready on walks to catch a super cool moment at any second

3. you post said awesome pictures and videos on a blog or forum dedicated especially to them (ALL of us here do that…)

4. you are willing to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for their well being because they are not JUST a dog

and if you have any others to share, please do!

Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog

You rescue a neglected puppy and put up with his punk behavior day in and day out knowing that someday he'll be a good dog.

You are still hanging around Tripawds.com eight months (or more for some here) after you let your tri-pug go.

My min pin Mousie, was obtained specifically for the purpose of keeping Shelli company, so thus, was her ward and responsiblity.

Besides, I think talking to my pugs is normal, and they do understand lots of words and phrases.  It only seemed to me to be silly as Maggie aged because she was going deaf and couldn't hear me.

And her vision wasn't that good either so she couldn't read my lips big-grin.

I have always talked to my pups. They do understand every word I say, don't they?

You know you're a dog lover when...

You let them up on your bed with you, even though you know that they are still a little damp from being outside in the rain

That is true, Chloe does know some words and phrases like "sit, out, come, stay, food, where's your ball?", but I am pretty sure I make no sense to her the rest of the time... all she hears is "blah blah blah, food, blah blah"

So true!  Done it twice for Comet!

1. You know you are dog lover when you talk to your dog AFTER THEY ARE DEAD!!!  (or is that verging on looney? big-grin)

2. You know you are dog lover when Wyatt Ray 's behaviour seems rather normal!  Over-the-top  - but normal! rasberry

Haha, thanks G, I knew  that's why I liked you right away!

Mom sez:

....you know you're a dog lover when...

You hold treats like apple slices, graham crackers and other big stuff between your teeth, then let your dog gently grab the other end from your mouth!

Whose dog are you talking about?? Doesn't sound like W.R.D. !!!  I wouldn't even do that with Obie at this point... he's small, but deadly!.

Here's another one:

You know you are a dog lover when:

Your carefully picked out, color matched furniture is covered with blankets of random sizes and colors to try and keep it sort of clean.  This would be instead of simply keeping the dogs off the furniture.

And of course the Tripawds corollary:

Your floors are covered with a mish-mash of throw rugs and other 'non-skid' materials.

We talk to Ginger all the time.  Just today, Brian heard me talking and asked what I said and told him "never-mind, I was talking to Ging."  The problem is ... if one of us talks to her, the other answers - for her - in a special voice.  For some reason she has a southern accent but has never been Georgia.

Brian lets Ginger take food from his mouth - usually french fries.

You know when you are a dog lover when ...

1.  You drive 2 hours every couple of weeks for chemo treatments

2.  Your Dad makes up songs, just for the dog.

Brian makes up songs for Gingy - I will have to get it on video and post because it is pretty adorable.

How about...

You know your a dog lover when you bring a grocery bag of dog treats home but you forget to pick something up for dinner (for the non-furry part of the family).

Happens at my house all the time.  Hey, I have my priorities.  I also talk to them and also to my deaf cat.  The dogs do understand quite a lot, I believe.  The cat....not so much.

BTW, never would I hold ANY food item in my mouth for my dogs and not need plastic surgery immediately afterwards.

when you are outside at 8:30 pm in the storm of the century shovelling out a personal potty patio for your dog 🙂

I talk to Cooper more than I talk to some people, and I actually feel like I get better answers from him most of the time 🙂  , and I talk to Kodis ashes from time to time when I am missing him...
