Hi everyone! I’m a current senior at the University of Notre Dame studying Product Design, and for one of my classes, I’m looking to design a product for dogs with physical impairments, such as tripawds! I need to do some research and actually learn about what it means to have a dog that may have a harder time doing certain tasks. I’d love to talk to anyone who would be willing to help out, but if you’re in the greater Chicago area or somewhere else near Notre Dame, that would be best, as I may want to try and do a home visit at some point. PM me or comment if you’d be interested in doing an interview with me or if you want to get me in contact with a friend who may be interested! Thank you all, and I hope to get to talk to some of you about your experiences.

Hello and thank you for wanting to improve the lives of Tripawds! That's so awesome. It sounds like you are looking at designing some sort of mobility product like a cart, brace, or prosthetic? Talking to Tripawd parents is certainly helpful, but we also recommend that you team up with a local canine orthopedic surgeon or canine rehab therapist who can help. Here's why:

A vet surgeon or canine rehab therapist understands the intricate biomechanics of a Tripawd, and can guide you in the process. They can also connect you with their clients and you can form a real partnership that helps you in developing the product. I say this, because oftentimes with mobility products that are not designed by experts who are well-versed in animal biomechanics can lead to more harm than good. As much as someone's intentions are from the heart, we encourage people who want do this kind of thing to work with veterinary experts directly.

Here are some interesting Tripawds studies you should check out, many of them have to do with biomechanics and orthopedics:

We would love to follow along with your product development! Please keep us posted.
