Alison I'm a mix fan myself...the combinations are so cool! Basenjis are actually 'barkless' dogs originally from Africa. They tend to be quiet and instead of a bark they'll do an occasional yodel. Also, when you have some time on your hands you might just try an advanced search fir small dog and leave the breed open.

You'll have to sift through all the chis and lhasas and tiny terriers and the like, but you might just see the right combo.

Often at busy shelters ACOs and intake people just guess at breeds. There could be a Shiba mix out there who is called a cattle dog or terrier or other mix just because they aren't sure what she really is and just with the easy/obvious mix.

I hear you on not being into pocket dogs. Isn't it funny how we all have our 'types?'

Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.

Hey Alison,

I was just messing around on Petfinder and noticed a quirk that might be why you keep getting dogs in places like Colorado.  After you enter your search parameters and filter the results (distance, size, characteristics, etc), if you click on a dog's photo to check out their bio and then hit the back button on your browser, instead of the "Return to search results" link on the page, it takes you back to the original search results without any filters you may have selected.

Good luck with Karma this weekend!!
